18 The board may, notwithstanding the presentation <strong>of</strong> a diploma<br />

19 from an osteopathic school or college in good standing, as herein<br />

20 defined, subject the applicant to an examination to ascertain whether<br />

21 he has the educational requirements usually possessed by those who<br />

22 have completed an approved course <strong>of</strong> study in such high school or<br />

23 other equivalent school as is described in this chapter. The fee for<br />

24 making this examination shall be five dollars. But no such examina-<br />

25 tion shall be required where the applicant presents a certificate that<br />

26 he has passed a satisfactory written examination before this board or<br />

27 a like board in another jurisdiction in such studies as are embraced<br />

28 in the curriculum <strong>of</strong> a reputable average accredited high school.<br />

29 The board, subject to the limitations hereinbefore stated, shall<br />

30 have authority to purchase typewriting machines, stationery and<br />

31 postage, and subject to such limitations it has authority to employ<br />

32 necessary clerical help and to incur and reimburse its members for<br />

33 necessary traveling expenses.<br />

34 The executive council shall furnish the board suitable quarters<br />

35 wherein to perform its functions, and which shall be adequate to<br />

36 accommodate the clerical help employed by the board and the council<br />

37 shall equip such quarters with suitable furniture.<br />

SEC. 1326-a8. Qualifications <strong>of</strong> applicants—college defined.<br />

1 The board shall issue no license to practice as an osteopathic<br />

2 physician or as an osteopathic physician and surgeon unless the appli-<br />

3 cant shall be a graduate <strong>of</strong> a school or college <strong>of</strong> osteopathy in good<br />

4 standing. To be such school or college it must be a legally chartered<br />

5 osteopathic school or college. It must, as a condition precedent to<br />

6 admission thereto, require an applicant for admission to have through-<br />

7 out four years pursued a course <strong>of</strong> study in preliminary education<br />

8 equal to the requirements exacted by an average reputable accredited<br />

9 high school as a condition precedent to graduation. It shall not be<br />

10 deemed to be such school or college in good standing unless it will not<br />

11 grant a degree <strong>of</strong> doctor <strong>of</strong> osteopathy or <strong>of</strong> osteopathy and surgery<br />

12 to one who has not been in actual attendance in such school or college<br />

13 for at least thirty-six months <strong>of</strong> four terms <strong>of</strong> nine months each, nor<br />

14 unless the course <strong>of</strong> study in such osteopathic school or college includes<br />

15 the following : Obstetrics, minor surgery with emphasis on fractures,<br />

16 and dislocations ; and embodying necessary instruction in anesthetics,<br />

17 antiseptics, germicides, parasiticides, narcotics and antidotes, and<br />

18 teaching principles <strong>of</strong> surgery and surgical diagnosis leading to the<br />

19 degree <strong>of</strong> osteopathic physician (or doctor <strong>of</strong> osteopathy).<br />

SEC. 1326-a9. Additional osteopathic qualifications for surgery.<br />

1 To practice as an osteopathic physician and surgeon, the appli-<br />

2 cant, in addition to the requirements set forth in the preceding sec-<br />

3 tion, shall:<br />

4 1. Either have completed a two years' post-graduate course in a<br />

5 reputable pr<strong>of</strong>essional school or college <strong>of</strong> osteopathy, involving a<br />

6 thorough and intensive study in the subject <strong>of</strong> surgery, or<br />

7 2. Has completed a one year post-graduate course in a reputable<br />

8 school or college <strong>of</strong> osteopathy as aforesaid and in addition thereto, a
