SEC. 1326-al. Definitive section.<br />

1 This chapter shall be known and cited as "The <strong>Iowa</strong> Osteopathic<br />

2 Act".<br />

SEC. 1326-aS. Practice without license unlawful.<br />

1 It shall be unlawful for any person to practice or attempt to prac-<br />

2 tice osteopathy or osteopathy and surgery as herein defined, without<br />

3 a license so to do, issued by the state board <strong>of</strong> osteopathic examiners,<br />

4 created by this chapter.<br />

SEC. 1326-a3. "Osteopathy" defined.<br />

1 The word "osteopathy" as used in this chapter is the name <strong>of</strong> that<br />

2 system <strong>of</strong> the healing art which places the chief emphasis on the struc-<br />

3 tural integrity <strong>of</strong> the body mechanism as being the most important<br />

4 factor for maintaining the organism in health.<br />

SEC. 1326-a4. Applicability <strong>of</strong> chapter.<br />

1 The practice <strong>of</strong> medicine and surgery by persons authorized under<br />

2 the laws <strong>of</strong> this state to practice medicine and surgery shall in no way<br />

3 be affected by the provisions <strong>of</strong> this chapter, nor affect the right to<br />

4 apply for authority to practice medicine and surgery.<br />

SEC. 1326-a5. Existing licenses.<br />

1 Any license or certificate heret<strong>of</strong>ore issued under the laws <strong>of</strong> this<br />

2 state authorizing its holder to practice osteopathy shall in no wise be<br />

3 affected by the provisions <strong>of</strong> this chapter.<br />

SEC. 1326-a6. <strong>State</strong> board <strong>of</strong> osteopathy—appointment—qualifications<br />

— tenure — records — duties — examinations — compensation<br />

and expenditures.<br />

The administration <strong>of</strong> the provisions <strong>of</strong> this chapter and the issuance<br />

<strong>of</strong> all licenses thereunder, shall be done by a body <strong>of</strong> three, who<br />

shall constitute the state board <strong>of</strong> osteopathy, hereinafter referred to<br />

as "the board". The members <strong>of</strong> the board shall be the examiners <strong>of</strong><br />

all applicants under this chapter.<br />

The governor shall appoint three members <strong>of</strong> said board who<br />

shall each be regularly licensed osteopathic physicians or osteopathic<br />

physicians and surgeons, in good standing and recommended by the<br />

regular osteopathic organization in this state. Neither shall be an<br />

<strong>of</strong>ficer or member <strong>of</strong> any faculty <strong>of</strong> any osteopathic or medical college.<br />

Each shall have been engaged in the practice <strong>of</strong> osteopathy for a<br />

period <strong>of</strong> at least five years immediately preceding the appointment.<br />

One shall be appointed for a term <strong>of</strong> one year, one for a term <strong>of</strong> two<br />

years and one for a term <strong>of</strong> three years, and thereafter it shall be<br />

the duty <strong>of</strong> the governor to appoint or reappoint one examiner each<br />

year and for a term <strong>of</strong> three years, the three year appointments being<br />

made as the ones heret<strong>of</strong>ore specified lapse. Each examiner shall<br />

continue in <strong>of</strong>fice until his successor has been appointed and has<br />

qualified.
