6 from said fund. Any balance <strong>of</strong> said funds remaining shall be turned<br />

7 over to the state treasurer for the use <strong>of</strong> the school fund.<br />

NOTE: 39 G. A., ch. 209, § 46 struck out <strong>of</strong> section 2683 <strong>of</strong> the supplement to<br />

the code, 1913, certain language which was omitted from section 1314 <strong>of</strong> the compiled<br />

code because obsolete and supplanted by the subsequent legislation <strong>of</strong> 35<br />

G. A., ch. 207, § 1. 39 G. A., ch. 209, § 46 is now added to the historic reference<br />

<strong>of</strong> the above section, otherwise the section is in the same form as it appeared in<br />

the compiled code.<br />

CHAPTER 6-A.<br />

PODIATRY.<br />

SECTION 1321-al. Definitions.<br />

1 Podiatry (sometimes called chiropody) shall for the purpose <strong>of</strong><br />

2 this chapter mean the diagnosis and medical and surgical treatment<br />

3 <strong>of</strong> ailments <strong>of</strong> the human foot. Podiatrist shall mean one practicing<br />

4 podiatry.<br />

SEC. 1321-a2. License required—scope <strong>of</strong> practice.<br />

1 It shall be unlawful for any person to pr<strong>of</strong>ess to be a podiatrist,<br />

2 to practice or assume the duties incident to podiatry, without first<br />

3 obtaining from the state board <strong>of</strong> medical examiners a license author-<br />

4 izing the practice <strong>of</strong> podiatry in this state, except as hereinafter pro-<br />

5 vided. No podiatrist shall amputate the human foot or toe or toes, or<br />

6 use any anesthetic other than local.<br />

SEC. 1321-a3. Board <strong>of</strong> examiners—examinations—qualifications<br />

—licenses.<br />

1 At the annual meeting <strong>of</strong> the state board <strong>of</strong> medical examiners<br />

2 it shall select two physicians from its own membership and two<br />

3 licensed podiatrists, residents <strong>of</strong> this state and actively engaged in<br />

4 the practice <strong>of</strong> podiatry, who, together with the secretary <strong>of</strong> the state<br />

5 board <strong>of</strong> medical examiners, shall constitute the podiatry examiners<br />

6 for the year.<br />

7 The examinations shall be held in the city <strong>of</strong> Des Moines, in July<br />

8 <strong>of</strong> each year and at such other times and places as the state board <strong>of</strong><br />

9 medical examiners shall direct.<br />

10 All applicants for license shall have attained the age <strong>of</strong> twenty-<br />

11 one years and shall be <strong>of</strong> good moral character ; they shall have had<br />

12 at least one year <strong>of</strong> instruction in and be graduates <strong>of</strong> some school <strong>of</strong><br />

13 podiatry, recognized as being in good standing by the state board <strong>of</strong><br />

14 medical examiners.
