GU Group solves conflict between regulatory standards:
escape route sliding doors can be locked at any time
The Gretsch-Unitas Group of Companies presents the first and only escape route sliding door
to solve the conflict arising from the contradicting claims of the directives AutSchR and EltVTR.
Their new type-tested door system offers the benefit of planning security because it does not
require the particular approval by a construction supervisory board.
Until now planers and fabricators of automatic sliding doors in rescue routes have been in a
quandary when it came to complying with the two directives AutSchR (Automatic sliding doors
in rescue routes) and EltVTR (Electrical locking systems on escape route doors) of the DIBt
Building Rules List A part 1 at the same time.
The first directive stipulates that in the event of a power failure sliding doors in escape routes
must open before the escaping person reaches the door. In operating mode "OFF/NIGHT",
door locking and deactivation of the radar motion detector are not permitted as long as people
are inside the building. If, however, escape sliding doors in buildings such as, e.g., hospitals,
nursery homes, hotels, airports etc. must be locked at certain times, although people are inside
the building, it is imperative that the second directive is complied with – two requirements
mutually excluding each other. So far, a type-tested sliding door suited for such situations has
not existed in the market. Until today, the (uneconomic) solution has been to install a swing
door next to the sliding door.
The dilemma is now solved with a door system introduced by the Gretsch-Unitas Group: the
escape route sliding door HM-F FT from GU Automatic GmbH combined with the BKS escape
door control unit FTNT10. The sliding panels feature swing door fittings and a certified electric
escape door strike. During the day, the system is a redundant sliding door, whereas in operating
mode " OFF/NIGHT " it functions as secured swing door with escape door strike. In the
event of an emergency, the locked door can be released by pressing the illuminated emergency
button, so the door panels can be swivelled outward in the direction of escape. The release
of the door is guaranteed even if a load is applied on the panels by people in panic. All in all a
technically convincing and economic solution providing the benefit of planning security.
