Staffing continued<br />

Grievance Resolution Process<br />

The <strong>Gallery</strong>’s grievance process has now been in place for<br />

some time. Any staff member who wishes to lodge a personal<br />

grievance against any action that directly affects <strong>the</strong>m has been<br />

fully informed on <strong>the</strong> appropriate process. This process complies<br />

with requirements as set out in <strong>the</strong> Public Sector Management<br />

and Employment Act 1998.<br />

Health and Safety<br />

The Council <strong>of</strong> Trustees and management <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>NGV</strong> place a<br />

high priority on <strong>the</strong> health and safety <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir staff members. The<br />

Occupation Health and Safety Committee met on six occasions<br />

this year. Despite a vigorous program conducted <strong>by</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

Committee and its individual members, nine days were lost as a<br />

result <strong>of</strong> industrial accidents compared to 98 days in 2000–01.<br />

Industrial Relations<br />

No days were lost as a result <strong>of</strong> industrial disputes.<br />

Staff Statistics<br />

The <strong>National</strong> <strong>Gallery</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Victoria</strong> started <strong>the</strong> 2001–02 financial<br />

year with 150.8 (full-time equivalent) staff members and ended<br />

it with 170.48 (full-time equivalent) staff.<br />

The variance in staffing figures between 2000–01 and 2001–02<br />

was due to <strong>the</strong> increased operational demands associated with<br />

<strong>the</strong> impending opening <strong>of</strong> The Ian Potter Centre: <strong>NGV</strong> Australia.<br />

These staffing increases are distributed across a number <strong>of</strong><br />

work areas.<br />
