Graphic Graphic -Advocate -Advocate Holiday Deadlines & Publication Dates: Boards meet together For about two years now, the Southern Cal and Rockwell City/Lytton School Boards have met at least monthly in joint sessions to discuss matters of mutual concern to the whole-grade sharing partners. If a consolidation vote is passed in both districts on Feb. 5, 2013, both boards will continue to operate until the districts are officially consolidated July 1, 2014 as the South Central Calhoun District. (Graphic-Advocate photo by Ken Ross) SCCMS boys play basketball at Newell and East Sac The South Central Calhoun 7th & 8th grade boys’ basketball teams travelled to Newell last week to take on the Newell Fonda Mustangs. The Titan 7th graders ran into a solid Mustang crew falling by a score of 57-38. Leading the way in scoring was Tyler Jones with 20 pts. Colton Bahr and Chase Pibal both had 6 pts apiece. Coach Williamson commented, “The difference was Newell Fonda’s press. They forced turnovers and capitalized on our mistakes.” The Titan 8th grade team ran into a physical mustang squad as South Central Calhoun came up short 40- 35. Brenden Henklemen led the Titans with 17 pts. Tyler O’Tool chipped in with 7 pts. Coach Williamson commented, “We ran into a physical team tonight and just couldn’t match them in that department. Kids played hard but Newell Fonda stayed just a step ahead all night. Overall both 7th and 8th graders continue to work hard. Consistency has been a big issue for both groups. Still some games to be played and I’m sure we’ll continue to improve.” The South Central Calhoun Titans 7th & 8th grade boys basketball teams the traveled to East Sac County last week for two 7th grade games and one 8th grade game. Tyler Jones had 10 pts in a losing effort. In the 7B game the Titans hung tough before bowing, 26-20. Joey Schrage had a double-double for the Titans scoring 10 pts and pulling down 11 rebounds. Joey also had 4 blocked shots. Tanner Fistler and Jerad Campbell each , had 4 pts. Coach Boerner commented, “The kids continue to improve and both squads tonight hustled and put in solid efforts “ The Titan 8th graders took the floor and the crowd was treated to quite an exciting game. In a see saw affair the Titans came away with a hard earned 39-35 win. The titans had nine 3 pointers including 4 by Kody Case and 3 by Jonas Otto. Otto led the team in scoring with 13 pts, while Case had 12 pts. A.J. Neubaum finished with 7 pts. Coach Williamson commented, “I told the kids it was a pure gut check time. They stepped up in key situations and came away with a huge win on the road. They (Raiders) took away our inside game and we responded with our outside shooting. A huge win going into the break “ is not the answer. Perhaps if more American citizens took advantage of their rights to a ‘concealed carry’, more of these tragedies could be slowed, if not prevented. As far as I’m concerned, it all starts at home. We as parents have an obligation to instill the highest of values and respect into our children though conversation, love and our actions. By involving them in the sports of hunting or shooting at a very young age, they will grasp onto the deep respect that is required in firearm safety and handling in which our heritage is based. Scoring in the game was Elle Rastetter with 17 points, Meghan Dietrich had 5, and Hannah Seil with 2 points. The next week the girls played two home games. Newel-Fonda came to town and defeated the Titans 4-31. Teylor Anderson scored two free throws and Kim Daisy scored the lone basket. The next game saw the girls play much better and after being down 10 points with one minute to play made a run but came up short losing 22-24. Meghan Dietrich scored 8 points, Elle Rastetter-4, Maia Schossow-4, Jessica Hicks-2, Hannah Seil-2, Kim Daisy-2 points in the game vs. East Sac. Other 7th grade girls contributing in the games were Dezarae Blankenship, Grace Henkelman, Drew Pochinski, Rachel Roberts, Kayla Schultz, Isabella Thompson, and Shantell Williams. The Titans played a combined 7th and 8th grade basketball game against Laurens-Marathon. The final score was 33-6 in favor of the Titans.
