Andy Warhols Siebdruck Bilderserie von Marilyn Monroe folgte direkt auf ihren Suizid im August 1962. Warhols Äußerung<br />
über das Thema verband Marilyn mit der Entstehung seiner „Death and Disaster“ Gemäldeserie, als er sagte „Ich schätze,<br />
es war das Bild des großen Flugzeugabsturzes auf der Titelseite einer Zeitung: 129 STERBEN. Ich malte ebenfalls<br />
die Marilyns. Ich realisierte, dass alles, was ich tat in Verbindung mit dem Tod stand.“ Alle seine Foto-Serigraphie<br />
Gemälde und Siebdrucke basieren auf derselben Bildquelle eines Publicity Fotos von Marilyn Monroe für ihren Film<br />
Niagara aus dem Jahr 1953.<br />
Andy Warhol’s series of silkscreen paintings of Marilyn Monroe immediately followed her suicide in August 1962. Warhol´s<br />
statement on the subject linked Marilyn with the origins of his Death and Disaster series of paintings when he said<br />
“I guess it was the big plane crash picture, the front page of a newspaper: 129 DIE. I was also painting the Marilyns.<br />
I realized that everything I was doing must have been Death.” All of his photo-silkscreened paintings and screenprints<br />
are based on the same source image of a publicity photo of Marilyn Monroe for her 1953 fi lm Niagara.<br />
