Abstract
Mycobacterium bovis has a similar genome construction (99%) with Mycobacterium
tuberculosis and it is one of the tuberculosis agents which constitute the “consumption” as the
disease is known in public. It has preserved its characteristic for years and it has caused
disease in people whose occupation is stoockbreeding. The disease still exists in our country
and it is present in the list of diseases with obligatory denunciation. Organizations such as
WHO (World Health Organization), IUATLD (International Tuberculosis and Lung Disases
Organization) and CDC (Control Disases Centre, Atlanta, USA) are deeply involved in
research to increase the knowledge of epidemiology of tuberculosis and they support this kind
of research. The eradication of the disease is reported in some countries in the European
continent (Denmark, Czech republic, Norway, Sweden, Estonia, Island, Cyprus). To enable
the export of milk and milk pruducts from Turkey to E.U countries, establsihing disease-free
farms has been decided on. The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs has done studies in
provinces for this purpose. In these reports, 150 tuberculosis events were reported to occur in
2005, tuberculin tests were performed in 5976 cows except disease-free enterprises and the
prevalance was found to be 10 %. This project aims the isolation and genotyping of
Mycobacterium bovis in the bovine internal organ samples which tuberculosis was diagnosed
sections. First of all, internal organ samples from cows macroscapically diagnosed as
provinces, will be obtained and transffered to the Mycobacterium laboratory of the
Microbiology and Clinical Microbiology Department in Faculty of Medicine of Ege Universty.
The second section will consist of the laboratory work in which the isolation, identification,
antibiotic sensitivity profile determination and genotyping from the samples will be carried
out.
