MARICOPA COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION Public Input Meeting We Need Your Input Wild Rose Parkway Feasibility Study Sun Valley Parkway to US60/Grand Avenue "Alternative Analysis" Phase Public Input Meeting The Maricopa County Department of Transportation’s (MCDOT) RightRoads Program is conducting the second in a series of three public open house meetings being conducted through the course of this study to gather community input about potential roadway improvements along the future Wild Rose Parkway corridor between Sun Valley Parkway and US60/Grand Avenue. This long range transportation planning study is the first step in the roadway development process and is meant to aid the local jurisdictions in defining and protecting a continuous future roadway corridor that can accommodate ultimate (build-out conditions) traffic demands in the project study area. This second (Alternative Analysis Phase) public input meeting will provide area residents and other study stakeholders with an opportunity to inform study team members about study area issues and local transportation needs. This meeting will also serve to elicit feedback regarding the study’s purpose, goals and objectives, as well as the Arizona Parkway design concept. Alternatives for proposed roadway cross sections, alternative alignments, and an evaluation of each conceptual alternative will be presented for public review and comment. Study information, maps and exhibits will be available for viewing during the meeting. Your input during this phase is an integral part of the MCDOT long-range transportation planning process. Stop by anytime between 5:00 and 7:00 p.m. to speak with MCDOT study team members. Dove Valley Road Wittmann, AZ 85361 (Near Center St & Dove Valley Rd) About the Study The Wild Rose Parkway Feasibility Study (Sun Valley Parkway to US 60/Grand Avenue) is one of a series of long-range transportation planning studies being conducted by the Maricopa County Department of Transportation (MCDOT). These studies evaluate future parkways identified in the Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG) Interstate 10 (I-10)/Hassayampa Valley Transportation Framework Study (2008) that recommended a comprehensive transportation network of freeways, parkways, and major arterial roads designed to meet the future traffic demands for “build-out” conditions in the area west of the White Tank Mountains. The Wild Rose Parkway study area is generally centered on the Wild Rose Parkway (243rd Ave) north/south section line from Sun Valley Parkway to US 60/Grand Avenue. The study focus area is approximately 11 miles long and is two miles wide, about one mile each side of the Wild Rose Parkway alignment. The primary purpose of this feasibility study is to identify the optimum corridor for the future Wild Rose Parkway alignment in order to preserve sufficient public right-of-way and protect the future roadway corridor from development and encroachment. The Arizona Parkway
The 2008 Maricopa Association of
Governments Transportation Framework
Study identified the need for a new type of
enhanced arterial (non-freeway) roadway
MARICOPA COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION
Safe Driving Tips:
Inoperative Traffic Light/Power Outage
• Treat the intersection just like a four-way STOP!
Flooded Roadway and Washes
• Don’t Risk It!
• Never cross a rain-swollen wash
• Do not drive around roadway barriers
• Never underestimate the power and force of water
• A vehicle is NOT a flotation device!
Dust Storms
• Turn your headlights on and slow to a prudent speed
• If you pull off the road, get as far to the right as possible. Turn off the car and headlights,
and set the parking brake
• Keep your foot off the brake pedal – other drivers may think you’re a car in motion
with greater travel capacity than that provided
by a traditional six-lane surface
street. As a result, the Arizona Parkway
concept was developed. On an Arizona
Parkway, all left-turn movements are made
using an “indirect” left-turn crossover
immediately beyond crossroad intersections
rather than directly at cross-street
intersections. This design enhances traffic
safety and increases roadway capacity
while maintaining local access. The
Arizona Parkway features a 45 MPH posted
speed limit.
Make More Clean Air!
• Drive less
Car pool, van pool or use public transit
• Don’t Wait
Avoid waiting in long drive-thru lines.
Park your car and go inside
• Gas Up at night or early morning
• Make every trip count (because
every breath counts)
Consolidate errands, appointments
and shopping trips
