Contrairement à son personnage Lynette Scavo dans la série Desperate
Housewives, dont le succès ne se dément pas à travers le monde,
Felicity Huffman attache bien plus d’importance à son apparence ! En
effet, c’est sur son 31 que l’actrice est apparue à sa conférence de
presse hier après-midi, devant un parterre de journalistes conquis.
Pour résumer cette différence de perception entre fiction et réalité,
notre héroïne raconte qu’à son arrivée à l’aéroport de Nice, une
femme l’a reconnue en tant que Lynette Scavo et lui dit, avec un
accent français prononcé qu’elle imita parfaitement « On the show,
you’re fat and ugly ! But in real life, you’re beautiful ! ». [Dans la série,
vous êtes grosse et moche ! Mais en fait dans la vraie vie, vous êtes
magnifique !]
Felicity se sent très proche de son personnage, et ce bien
évidemment à cause de son rôle de mère. Mais elle avoue être
beaucoup plus souple avec son mari dans la vie (l’acteur William H.
Macy, qui l’a accompagnée ici à Monte-Carlo) que Lynette ne l’est
avec Tom Scavo dans la série.
« Comme n’importe quelle femme, j’amène et vais chercher mes
enfants à l’école, je vais au supermarché… » Fille d’une famille
nombreuse (7 filles et un garçon), Felicity Huffman est la cadette et
reste proche de ses frères et sœurs : « Ils sont ma bonne étoile ! ».
Au commencement de l’aventure des « ménagères » de Wisteria Lane,
elle avait auditionné pour le rôle de Bree (joué par Marcia Cross), et
avait pris soin de bien se préparer. Pourtant, c’est avec humour qu’elle
raconte que le producteur savait au premier regard qu’elle incarnerait
Lynette : « Car vous étiez dans un tel état ! Avec des tâches sur vos
vêtements et vos cheveux décoiffés ! ». Quelle ironie … !
Si elle est encore sous contrat avec la série pour 2 ans, l’infatigable
Lynette grouille de projets mais elle l’avoue avec honnêteté : «J’adore
travailler depuis chez moi… Histoire de passer plus de temps avec

When asked about the similarities between herself and Lynette Scavo
of Desperate Housewives, Felicity Huffman revealed that she finds
being a mother quite challenging: “I think we both feel a little bit
buried by the whole motherhood thing,” she said. “And we are both
ambitious. On the other hand I think Lynette is tougher on her husband
than I am.” Earlier in the day, her husband William Macy had told
journalists at the Grimaldi Forum that she was an amazing Mother.
When this was mentioned to her, she returned the compliment: “You
could not wish for a better Dad than Bill, he’s very good at holding
everything together, he’s the root of the family,” she said.
In terns of what Huffman does in the rare periods when she isn’t
working, she admitted to being ‘quite boring’: “I’d like to say that
I hang-glide and attempt to save the planet, but in fact, alongside
taking the kids to school, shopping and picking up the dry-cleaning,
I like to run, I love my garden and I enjoy reading in bed. I’m currently
reading a book by William Manchester, which makes me sound
terribly smart, but I like everything from historical stuff through to
Danielle Steel.”
Desperate Housewives first became famous for being a show that
made woman in their 40s look sexy and viable, something for which
Huffman is very grateful: “It really changed Hollywood in that as an
actress you used to fall off a cliff around the age of 40, but now it’s 50
and I’m not far away from that,” she said. “Whether playing Lynette
has been the role of a lifetime is very hard to say, but certain story
lines really stick in my mind. In the last series, when me and Tom
were on the verge of splitting up, it took me out of my comfort zone,
even if it was only my TV husband played by Doug Savant.” GS
