ClassIC orMonD She is the new recruit to Law & Order: Criminal Intent, but Julia Ormond, joining the 10th and final season as Dr. Paula Severin, a police psychologist conducting mandatory sessions with Vincent D’Onofrio’s tormented cop, is giving nothing away. “I can’t say anything really, and as for some sort of love interest with Vincent, wouldn’t that be an interesting form of therapy?” The ever-busy Ormond has also just finished filming My Week With Marylin, featuring Michelle Williams as Marylin Monroe: “It was really interesting to play the older actress looking at how the business affects the younger one,” she said. “Plus it is set in London at a pivotal moment in UK history, the beginning of the 1950s, when the empire was falling apart and Britain’s place in the world order was fading.” As if that was not enough, Ormond has a further three movies set for release over the next few months including The Green, an independent film from the US and coming of age film Albatross. “I think it’s far from over-dramatic to say that the independent film sector is in trouble because it is such a struggle to get finance and distribution,” she said. “And then even when you do, finding more money for the press and marketing is again very difficult.” Despite these difficulties, Ormond is optimistic: “Online distribution provides a real alternative to theatrical, and there are some very clever people currently trying to work out ways to make it work and make it pay,” she said. “And the great thing is that these days anyone can make a film, there are even going to be films made on phones and that’s all very healthy for the future of film making.
