20 2007 Family of Funds DESIGNATED FUNDS (Cont.) Robert J. Loughery Fund (2003) The Robert J. Loughery Fund was established by Mr. Loughery with a planned gift. Bob lived and worked in New Britain his entire life. He and his wife, Olga, lived a quiet, happy life enjoying the various activities taking place within the city and their cherished church family of St. Jerome. Bob was very involved with parish life at St. Jerome Church, and was a devoted volunteer with the American Cancer Society; the Salvation Army, especially the Holiday Castle; Elks Lodge #957; and the Knights of Columbus. Markiewicz Fund was established by bequest. Mr. Markiewicz, a native of New Britain, was a generous man who lived a frugal life. After retiring from New Britain Machine Company, he could be found playing golf at Stanley Golf Course several days a week. A long-time member of Holy Cross Church in New Britain, Mr. Markiewicz made plans through his estate to create a fund to support in perpetuity the Archbishop’s Annual Appeal for the Archdiocese of Hartford. This fund will be used to support the Foundation’s administrative endowment and will serve as a permanent legacy to the Penneys in the community they love. Herbert M. and Edythe Woodruff Peterson Fund (1998) The Herbert M. and Edythe Woodruff Peterson Fund was established by Mr. Peterson to provide ongoing support in perpetuity to organizations that he and his wife selected: the YMCA of New Britain-Berlin, the YWCA of New Britain, the Salvation Army of New Britain, the Friendship Service Center and South Congregational-First Baptist Church. Since 1964, the Human Resources Agency of New Britain, Inc., has effectively partnered with local, state and federal agencies and businesses to help increase the economic self-sufficiency of individuals and families in New Britain. Governed by a board of directors comprised of elected officials, business and community representatives and residents served by its programs, the agency’s myriad of services are focused on children and families, community and neighborhood, employment and training, energy and housing, and health and education. This fund will support general agency programming, with an initial focus on the agency’s current major renovation project at its Clinton Street headquarters in the former Benjamin Franklin Elementary School. The project, targeted for completion in the spring of 2009, includes renovation of existing space, as well as an 18,000-square-foot addition housing 25 state-of-the-art classrooms for its comprehensive Day Care and Head Start/School Readiness programs.
