2007 Family of Funds
DONOR ADVISED FUNDS
Many donors want to be actively involved with
their charitable giving, but want the help of
expert partners and managers. By establishing
a donor advised fund, donors may recommend
grants from the fund to qualified nonprofit
organizations throughout Greater New Britain
and across the country. Family members may
advise jointly with the donor, and Community
Foundation staff help identify grantees or
structure grants. A donor advised fund can
ultimately become a permanent family legacy
for the community with a minimum investment
of $5,000.

Vicenta Alverio Memorial Fund
(1999)
The Vicenta Alverio Memorial Fund was
established by sisters Diane, Marilyn and Yvonne
Alverio to honor their mother. Vicenta Alverio’s
daughters and granddaughters will be fund
advisors and their focus will be advancing the
lives of Latinas in Greater New Britain.
The Catalyst Fund (2003)
The Catalyst Fund is based upon a team-giving
concept that enables people in Berlin, New Britain,
Plainville and Southington to pool their resources
and help their communities. For an annual donation
of $250, members of this fund work cooperatively
on charitable issues of common concern,
coming together for a series of three workshops
that culminate in the selection of a grant recipient
organization.
HOWEY FAMILY FUND
When Greg and Barbara Howey first contemplated a donor
advised fund at the Community Foundation, what attracted
them was the notion that their family, despite being in
different parts of Connecticut, could actively work together
to make a difference in the Greater New Britain community.
Greg calls it a unique opportunity, an “educational family
exercise.”

Conry Asset Management Charitable
Fund (2006)
The Conry Asset Management Charitable Fund was
established by Brendan Conry to create a legacy of
giving back to the Greater New Britain community
for years to come. Conry Asset Management will
donate a portion of its annual profits to the fund
to provide grants to a variety of worthy causes,
including efforts to eliminate hunger and improve
education.
Don and Virginia Davis Fund (2002)
The Don and Virginia Davis Fund was established
by the Davises to continue their charitable giving in
the states in which they have a residence. They feel
that the work of the Foundation is so important
because it can address community needs as they
change over time. Don is the retired CEO of The
Stanley Works. He and Jinny raised their six children
in New Britain; they now split their time between
homes in Martha’s Vineyard and Florida.
Greg, president of OKAY Industries in the city, and Barbara, a
New Britain native, have a long history of community service.
Their three adult children, who live with their own families in
Madison and Fairfield, will play an active, regular role in
choosing annual grant awardees. And when the Howeys’ eight grandchildren are of age, they too, will take
part in the philanthropic process, carrying on a family tradition of giving back.
Grants from the Howey Family Fund will support New Britain-area organizations working to provide health
care, education and care for children, end homelessness and support the working poor. As the family gains
experience and knowledge, they hope to focus on one targeted area in which they may make the greatest
impact.
