Our Foundation
The Community Foundation of Greater New Britain connects
donors who care with causes that matter in Berlin, New Britain,
Plainville and Southington. We do this by raising resources and
developing partnerships that make a measurable improvement
in the quality of life in each of these communities.
This good work does not happen without the enormous
generosity of our donors, the thousands of caring individuals,
families, businesses, agencies and organizations who know
that a community is defined not only by the people who
live and work in it, but by those who care about making it a
better place.
In 2006, our communities’ tradition of caring and commitment
continued yet again, with donors displaying extraordinary
philanthropy. It is this vision and dedication that keep our
communities strong and make our future bright.
Our Funds
The more than 140 funds of the Community Foundation of
Greater New Britain are the instruments by which we do our
work. In 2006, six new funds were added to our Family of
Funds to serve interests and needs ranging from academic
enrichment to support for victims of domestic violence.
It’s easy to make a difference by supporting the Community
Foundation. Donors may contribute directly to an existing
fund, or establish a fund of their own. Funds can be established
by individuals, families, businesses or organizations in
a wide variety of ways to meet most any personal interest or
community need.

DISCRETIONARY FUNDS
Unrestricted funds administered at the
discretion of the Foundation’s board of
directors to meet the changing needs of
the community.
DESIGNATED OR FIELD OF INTEREST FUNDS
Funds that support a specific organization
or a field of interest that may be close to a
donor’s heart.
DONOR ADVISED FUNDS
Funds that support a donor’s current
interests, with direct participation by the
donor in the grantmaking process. These
funds allow for generational advising,
ensuring a tradition of family philanthropy.
SCHOLARSHIPS
Funds directed to students for academic
study and scholastic advancement.
BUILD-A-FUND
Funds that build an endowment over time
to a minimum level prior to distribution.
FISCAL SPONSORSHIP FUNDS
Funds that provide technical assistance in
the form of financial and administrative
services for voluntary groups performing
charitable work. Such groups may lack tax
status or the necessary infrastructure to
handle administrative services.
ADMINISTRATIVE ENDOWMENT FUND
Operational fund designed to build the
Foundation’s future financial strength.
PARTNERS IN PHILANTHROPY FUND
Annual appeal fund that supports current
Foundation operations.
