Funding and Donor <strong>Relations</strong><br />
By studying this chapter you will learn about:<br />
UNHCR’s ability to raise money is based on a general atmosphere of credibility<br />
involving: the cost-effectiveness of field operations, the perception of UNHCR as<br />
an institution (its role, mandate and management), as well as the international<br />
impact of the High Commissioner. With increasing demand and competition for<br />
resources, the funding of UNHCR’s operations and its relations with both private<br />
and public sector donors require an agency-wide team effort.<br />
Donors are not only demanding more control of funds through earmarking<br />
and reporting requirements but they also want more visibility. While UNHCR<br />
visibility in the media has an important influence on donors, direct relations<br />
between UNHCR field offices and donor representatives are also very important.<br />
This chapter is designed to help you deal effectively with key actors and<br />
fundraising issues.<br />
