Na naši univerzitu můžeme být pyšní
V
Vážení akademici,
milé studentky, milí studenti, dámy a pánové!
Čeká nás otevření krásné univerzitní knihovny a nových
administrativních prostor v Univerzitním centru, otevřou se
nové prostory pro laboratoře a výzkum, univerzita zahájí práci
na nových pracovištích v Prostějově a Bzenci, vzniknou nová vědecká
centra.
Stále více nabývá důležitosti a uznání vzdělávání celoživotní,
aby naši absolventi měli dobrý start do reálného života a vybudovali
Dear academics,
dear students, dear ladies and gentlemen!
I am very pleased to be able to contribute to our Universalia
magazine again. Each time I visit the University I am delighted
to see the way it develops and grows. This year will be no exception.
A beautiful University library, new offices in the
University Centre and new laboratories and research spaces will
be opened, new independent units will be put into operation in
Prostějov and Bzenec, new research centres will be created.
A few weeks ago I attended, as every year, an international conference
in Davos, Switzerland. At this event, apart from other things,
great emphasis was laid on the importance of education all over
the world. Lifelong learning that has been introduced also at our
University is growing in importance and winning recognition.
All those connected with our beautiful University are interested
not only in the extension but also in the improvement of the curriculum
in order to equip our graduates for life and enable them
to build a successful career.
I have plenty of opportunities to visit many universities all over
the world and I can say that we can be proud of our new and
tických změn, které v dnešním světě probíhají. Nutnost rozšiřovat
a zlepšovat vědomosti je dnes důležitější než kdy jindy. To
a získávat zkušenosti a znalosti práce a života v různých zemích
světa.
Přeji univerzitě do tohoto roku hodně úspěchů se započatými
projekty, studentům přeji hodně zdaru ve studiu a akademikům
přeji tvůrčí a dynamické prostředí.
modern University, even though we cannot rest on our laurels.
There is still a lot to improve – teaching standards, ability to absorb
and learn from dramatic changes that occur in today’s
world. The need to broaden and improve one’s knowledge is
more important today than ever. This means that it is necessary
to study foreign languages intensively and gain experience and
knowledge concerning work and life in various countries
around the world.
In this year I wish the University success with the projects commenced,
the best of luck to students and a creative and dynamic
atmosphere to the academics.
Fakulta technologická zůstává vlajkovou lodí UTB
rozhovor s děkanem FT doc. Ing. Petrem Hlaváčkem, CSc.
Od července loňského roku stojí v čele
Fakulty technologické doc. Ing. Petr
Hlaváček, CSc. Po půl roce ve funkci
děkana jsme jej požádali o rozhovor.
S jakými cíli jste vstupoval do funkce děkana
fakulty?
závěrům auditu a vytváříme přehled
problémů podle závažnosti.
Ukazuje se, že některé věci jsou složitější,
než se jevily, a naopak některé, jež
se zdály neřešitelné či nepřekonatelné,
již problémy nejsou. Podařilo se provést
první úpravy učebních programů, dokončujeme
materiály pro akreditaci nových
studijních programů. Velmi
zdárně pokračuje internacionalizace
studia, zejména nábor studentů v Číně.
Našim hlavním problémem je nový
systém financování vysokých škol podle
ukončených absolventů a na základě exkluzivních
výsledků výzkumu. Nedokážeme
si plně přestavit, co si tyto změny
vyžádají a jaká opatření budeme muset
udělat.
Fakulta technologická se může prokázat
řadou vědeckých úspěchů, přesto mladé
lidi ke studiu příliš neláká. Jak chcete fakultu
pro maturanty zatraktivnit?
U mladých lidí nejen v Evropě, ale
i v USA klesá zájem o studium technických
či technologických oborů. Souvisí
to s pokračujícím přesunem výroby z průmyslově
vyspělých zemí do oblasti Dálného
Východu. Podíváme-li se na
podobné univerzity v USA a v západní
Evropě, zjistíme, že mají mnohem vyšší
podíl studentů z rozvojových zemí.
Pátý Salvator odstartován
Od 1. února mohou lidé nominovat členy Integrovaného záchranného
systému Zlínského kraje i obyvatele regionu na zisk
ceny Salvator.
Ing. Jaroslava Světlíka, Ph. D. a dalších
hostů, kteří zastupovali Zlínský kraj a jednotlivé složky záchranného
systému.
Smyslem projektu je ocenit činy v oblasti ochrany zdraví, majetku
a bezpečnosti obyvatel vykonané v loňském roce nad rámec
o 20 lidech. Vyhlášení oceněných pak proběhne na slav-
Atraktivnost studia je obtížně měřitelná
a slova o aktivním ovlivňování atraktivity
studia patří spíše do sféry frází. To, co je
hlavním motivem při rozhodování, kterou
vysokou školu studovat, je hodně variabilní
a hlavně obtížně zjistitelné.
Ovlivňuje to řada faktorů.
produktem pedagogicky a výzkumně
má takové složení a zaměření, jaké má.
a zdravější.
zejména děti mohou seznámit s prací hasičů, policie a záchranné
služby.
Faculty of Technology Remains TBU ‘Flagship’
Interview with the Dean of the FT, doc. Ing. Petr Hlaváček, CSc.
T
The Faculty of Technology has been headed by
doc. Ing. Petr Hlaváček, CSc. since July 2007. Half a year after
his entering into the office of Dean we asked him to give
us an interview.
What aims did you have on entering into the office of Dean of the
Faculty?
Aims? The aims were markedly different from those today.
You have been heading the Faculty for more than half a year. In
which way have your plans changed and what have you, in your
opinion, achieved during that period?
Part of the pre-election plans was to carry out a ‘specialist’ audit
at the Faculty by experts from the Brno University of Technology.
We are currently finishing discussions with relevant
departments on the audit results and we are preparing a summary
of the issues in order of importance. Certain issues
turned out to be more difficult than they had seemed, while
those that seemed to be insoluble and insuperable are no
longer problems. We have managed to make first improvements
to the curriculum, and we are finishing the preparation
of documents necessary for the accreditation of new degree
programmes. Internationalization continues to enjoy considerable
success at the Faculty, particularly in the sphere of student
recruitment in China. The main problem we are faced
with is the new system of higher education institutions funding
based on the number of graduates and exclusive research
results. We can hardly imagine the consequences that will follow
from these changes and what steps we will have to take.
Although the Faculty of Technology has made a number of scientific
achievements, young people are not that much interested in
studying there. In which way do you want to make the Faculty
more attractive for secondary school graduates?
Young people not only in Europe but also in the USA are losing
interest in technically or technologically oriented degree
courses. This has to do with the continuous production redeployment
from the industrially advanced countries to the Far
East region. If we take a closer look at similar universities in
the USA and Western Europe, we will find out that the percentage
of students coming there from developing countries
is much higher than here. The attractiveness of study is measurable
only with difficulty and claims about the active influence
on the attractiveness of study are rather empty phrases.
It is not easy to discover the main reasons for deciding in
favour of one higher education institution or another, since
the decisive factors may differ considerably. For example, the
Ministry of Education in Austria has invested considerable
sums of money in chemically oriented degree courses to make
them more attractive, but it did not manage to prevent applicants
from losing interest. They even had to close some institutions
in Germany. However, what sounds unattractive to
a German or an Austrian, might be understood as a once-ina-lifetime
chance by a Chinese or Vietnamese student. It thus
seems that the attractiveness of study is a sideline product of
a pedagogically and research oriented university.
In what do you see the uniqueness of your Faculty when compared
with similarly oriented faculties?
The FT is unique mainly due to its location in Zlín, its
structure and orientation. It is unique because it gave birth
to four other faculties and another faculty is expected to
be established, and because it still remains the TBU ‘flagship’.
What shall the Faculty of Technology be like in the four upcoming
years?
It shall be more modern, more beautiful, stronger, richer,
more experienced, more content, more persistent, more assertive
and healthier.
zajímavosti
Historie vzniku vizuálního stylu UTB
V
Vizuální styl Univerzity Tomáše Bati ve Zlíně má už svou historii
a stojí za to si ji připomenout. Sahá až do akademického
roku 1998–99, kdy se Ateliér grafického designu tehdejšího
Institutu reklamní tvorby a marketingových komunikací
Ing. Petrem Sáhou, CSc. a RNDr. Alexanderem
Černým, ředitelem této instituce, vypsána soutěž na vytvoření
původní značky a logotypu už přesně definované Univerzity
zúčastnit pouze vyzvaní autoři a studenti IRTMK. Byli
vyzváni čtyři renomovaní autoři: docent Josef Hamza, docent
Vítězslav Švalbach, profesor Rostislav Vaněk
a docent Jan Meisner.
Jana Meisnera
a třetí místo patřilo ak. soch.
moudrosti vhodně vyjadřuje smysl a poslání univerzity.
schopen absorbovat i zcela nečekaný prudký nárůst počtu fakult.
Oprávněnost a moudrost tehdejšího rozhodnutí se nyní ukazuje
v plném světle. UTB, která má dnes přes 11 000 studentů,
750 akademických pracovníků a zaměstnanců, pět
fakult, institut a další organizační jednotky na obzoru, by se
jen těžko mohla v oblasti vizuálního vnímání formovat bez
závazné normy, kterou je design manuál. Původní design manuál
od MgA. Lumíra Kajnara z roku 2001 byl redesignován
ak. soch. Rostislavem Illíkem za systémového řízení kancléřky
univerzity Ing. Adrey Kadlčíkové a dalších spolupracovníků.
mutací logotypů a symbolů všech součástí. V další etapě
pak bylo provedeno proškolení pověřených pracovníků jednotlivých
součástí UTB. V závěru této etapy vývoje vizuálního
stylu budou na jednotlivé fakulty dodány tzv.
Minimanuály součástí UTB, tak aby každá fakulta měla svůj
vlastní předpis jak pracovat s jeho prvky. Pevně věříme, že to
vše napomůže k jeho důslednější aplikaci v praxi.
History of TBU Visual Style
what’s of interest
The history of the visual style of Tomas Bata University in Zlín is
fairly long and well worth mentioning. The creation of the visual
style dates back to the academic year 1998–99 in which the
Graphic Design Studio of the former Institute of Advertising and
Marketing Communications (IAMC) led by Jan Meisner, M.F.A.
was dealing with the design of the University graphic symbolism.
Although the exact name of the University was not known at that
time, several interesting designs were created, among them the final
winning symbol of a book.
In the year 2000 a competition for the creation of an original mark
and logotype of the precisely defined Tomas Bata University in
Zlín was advertised by Prof. Ing. Petr Sáha, CSc., at that time
Vice-Rector of the Brno University of Technology Centre in Zlín,
and RNDr. Alexander Černý, head of that institution. The competition
conditions were laid down by a document from 8 August
2000. One of the conditions was that only the authors and students
of IAMC asked were allowed to take part in the competition.
Four renowned authors were called on to participate: doc.
Josef Hamza, doc. Vítězslav Švalbach, Prof. Rostislav Vaněk and
doc. Jan Meisner. Another 11 students of the Graphic Design Studio
of IAMC took part in the competition and Rostislav Illík (at
that time Senior Lecturer) participated at his own request. A special
committee made up of four specialists in graphic design that
held a session on 26 September 2000 established an order of the
competitors. The design of the symbol of the book (that was created
in 1998, as has already been mentioned) by the student Bc.A.
Lumír Kajnar, was placed first, the design by doc. Jan Meisner
finished in second place and the design by Rostislav Illík, M.F.A.
was placed third. Another committee made up of the representatives
of the management of then nascent University held a session
where the order of the designs was discussed once again, this time
in the presence of all the three authors. This committee confirmed
the primacy of the winning design claiming that it is modern,
communicative and readily intelligible. The book that has been
traditionally perceived as a symbol of wisdom aptly expresses the
purpose and function of the University. Only with the benefit of
hindsight is it possible to claim that it was the best design at that
time, including the fact that it has been able to absorb the totally
unexpected sharp increase in the number of faculties.
The decision of the committee has proved to be just and wise.
TBU, with its more than 11,000 students, 750 academic and
other employees, 5 faculties, an institute and other organizational
units to be created, could have hardly been formed with
respect to its visual perception without a binding norm, namely
the design manual. The original design manual by Mg.A. Lumír
Kajnar from 2001 has been redesigned by Rostislav Illík, M.F.A.
under the systemic management of TBU Head of Public Relations
Department, Ing. Andrea Kadlčíková and her co-workers.
This major reconstruction was completed at the end of the year
2006 when the design manual was made available on
www.utb.cz, including all the possible versions of the logotypes
and symbols of all TBU units. Training of the authorized employees
of relevant TBU units took place in the following phase.
The so called ‘Mini-Manuals of the TBU Units’ will be distributed
among relevant faculties towards the end of the visual
style development phase in order to guarantee that each faculty
has its own regulation describing how to deal with its elements.
We firmly believe that this will facilitate its consistent application
to practice.
LUDUS a Real BusinessTM. Studenti Ústavu podnikové ekonomiky
se s nimi seznamují v magisterském studijním oboru Podniková
ekonomika.
Simulace Industrie – LUDUS je používána k výuce podnikově –
hospodářských disciplin. Jde o nejprogresivnější formu výuky,
která spojuje výhody plynoucí z informačních technologií a výuky
organizované prostřednictvím případových studií. Program
umožňuje uplatnit nejnovější poznatky z modelování řídicích procesů
především v oblastech marketingu, řízení výroby, financí, investic
nebo personálního řízení a tyto oblasti vhodně propojuje
s progresivními controllingově orientovanými postupy řízení průmyslového
podniku (manažerské účetnictví a kalkulace, plánování
a kontrola, strategický a operativní controlling). Tento
program byl v Německu vyznamenán cenou VŠ software roku
jako nejlepší simulační model v oboru ekonomických věd a používá
ho řada podniků v německy hovořících zemích.
V zimním semestru tohoto akademického roku se studenti seznámili
s podnikovou simulací Real BusinessTM, která jim efektivním
způsobem objasnila základy controllingu a finančního řízení. Real
BusinessTM úspěšně využívají např. společnosti IBM Central Europe,
Philips, Alcatel a další.
Podniková ekonomika III., Podnikový controlling, Peněžní a kapitálové
trhy či Firemní inovační politika přijali pozvání odborníci
z praxe, např. ze společností Škoda Auto a.s., MITAS a.s., Barum
Boty a kabelky z UTB poletí do Hongkongu
Až v dalekém Hongkongu, na světovém veletrhu obuvi a kožené
galanterie, se představí výrobky tří studentů Ateliéru designu
obuvi Fakulty multimediálních komunikací – Lenky Čejkové (3.
ročník), Davida Frkala (4.ročník) a Kateřiny Kudrové (2. ročník).
Ti se stali výherci soutěže mladých designérů obuvi, jejíž vyhodnocení
proběhlo 21. ledna na zmíněné fakultě. Boty a kabelky,
škol – zlínské FMK a uherskohradišťské Střední umělecko-průmyslové
školy.
„Účelem soutěže bylo zhodnotit tvůrčí potenciál studentů designu
obuvi na obou školách a představit jej na světovém
fóru,“ uvedl doc. Jan Zamazal, vedoucí Ateliéru designu obuvi
FMK.
a mezilidském vztahu. Hovořilo se ze-
jména o aktuálním pojetí a vymezení výchovy
v pedagogice,“ uvedl Mgr. Jakub
Hladík.
Pracovníci Ústavu pedagogických věd
plánují, že podobná setkání se uskuteční i
v dalších letech. „V budoucnu bychom
otázky výchovy rádi diskutovali také s antropology,
filozofy a sociology,“ řekl Mgr.
Enterprise Simulation Used in Classes
at the Department of Enterprise Economics
T
The Faculty of Management and Economics is the first economically-oriented
faculty in the Czech Republic that uses the Industrie
– LUDUS and Real BusinessTM enterprise simulation in its
classes. Students of the Department of Enterprise Economics get
acquainted with it in the Master’s degree course in Enterprise Economics.
The Industrie – LUDUS simulation is used in lessons focusing on
disciplines dealing with enterprise economics. This way of teaching
the above mentioned disciplines is the most progressive teaching
method that combines advantages of information technologies and
lessons organized by means of case studies. The programme enables
the latest knowledge of process control modelling particularly in the
spheres of marketing, production control, finance, investment or
personnel management to be applied and it adequately links the
afore-mentioned spheres to the progressive controlling-oriented industrial
enterprise control processes (managerial accounting and
“The aim of the competition was to evaluate
the creative potential of students of
footwear design at both schools and present
it at a world’s forum,” doc. Jan Zamazal,
head of the FMC Footwear Design
Studio, said. The author of this idea is Ing.
Michal Špaček, a footwear specialist and
member of the Board of Governors of the
Teachers Discussed Education
A branch of the Czech Pedagogical Society
was founded at the beginning of this year
in the Department of Pedagogical Sciences
of the Faculty of Humanities. It is a scientific
society that associates research workers,
teachers and other persons
professionally interested in pedagogy and
border and related disciplines. Soon after
its establishment the branch in Zlín organized
its first event – a meeting of higher
education teachers entitled Discussion on
Education.
Mgr. Jakub Hladík, who works at the
Department of Pedagogical Sciences and
at the same time holds office as chairman
of the Zlín branch of the Czech Pedagogical
Society, had been charged with the organization
of the meeting. “The meeting
took the form of a debate on education as
a phenomenon, process and human rela-
faculties and institute
ling). The programme has been awarded the higher education software
of the year prize in Germany as the best simulation model in
the field of economic sciences. It is being used by a number of enterprises
in the German speaking countries. In the winter semester
of this academic year students got acquainted with the Real BusinessTM
enterprise simulation that has effectively explained to them
the basics of controlling and financial management. Real BusinessTM
is being efficiently used by several companies e.g. IBM
Central Europe, Philips, Alcatel and others.
The above mentioned activities are not the only ones that link theory
to practice at the Department of Enterprise Economics. A number
of specialists coming from various companies, such as Škoda
Auto a.s., MITAS a.s., Barum Continental, spol. s r.o., Controller-
Institut or Contrast Consulting Prague, spol. s r.o accepted our invitation
to give lectures in the following subjects: Enterprise
vstupu a identifikačních prvků.
rokem. Výuku zde budou absolvovat jak studenti bakalářského,
tak navazujícího magisterského programu,“ představuje
laboratoř doc. Ing. Luděk Lukáš, CSc. z Ústavu elektrotechniky
a měření FAI.
Laboratoř bude využita také v oblasti výzkumu a vývoje. Výzkum
bude realizován v perspektivních oblastech bezpečnostních
technologií, jakými jsou kamerové systémy, integrované
zabezpečovací systémy, systémy pro kontrolou vstupu a biometrické
identifikační prvky. Experimentovat se bude například
s identifikačními prvky využívajícími k rozpoznávání
osob otisku prstu a reliéfu tváře.
Rudolf Drga
10
z Ústavu elektrotechniky a měření. Předpokládá se i propojení
s podobnou laboratoří zaměřenou na technologie inteligentních
budov.
Ing.
Luděk Lukáš, CSc. z Ústavu elektrotechniky
a měření FAI. „Během zasedání
jsme také s asociací projednali její
zapojení do přípravy mezinárodní konference
Perspektivní bezpečnostní technologie
ochrany majetku. Tuto
konferenci bude garantovat náš ústav a
uskuteční se v rámci doprovodného programu
mezinárodního veletrhu
PYROS/ISET 2008 v Brně 15. května
2008,“ dodal docent Lukáš.
Asociace Grémium Alarm je profesním
sdružením firem a subjektů, které vyvíjejí
činnost v oblasti technických služeb a zařízení
sloužících k ochraně osob a majetku.
a vývoje vědeckých pracovníků UTB a spolupracujících
firem do průmyslové praxe.
produktu.
„Nabízíme také odborné zpracování přihlášek patentů nebo
ochranných známek a také přímé zastupování klientů před
Úřadem průmyslového vlastnictví (ÚPV), Evropským patentovým
úřadem a dalšími institucemi,“ představuje Centrum
transferu technologií ředitelka Univerzitního institutu
Ing. Jindřiška Ondráčková a dodává: „O služby centra je
mezi zaměstnanci univerzity i firmami velký zájem. Jen za leden
jsme vypracovali a podali na ÚPV jednu patentovou přihlášku
od zaměstnanců UTB, jednu přihlášku mezinárodní
ochranné známky a tři přihlášky národních ochranných známek
Top-Ranking Laboratory of Security Technologies
at the FAI
A new laboratory, rated among the most advanced laboratories of
its type in the Czech Republic, has been opened at the Faculty of
Applied Informatics, namely a Laboratory of Advanced Security
Technologies. It is expected to function as a laboratory and teaching
workplace in the field of camera systems, input control systems
and identification elements systems.
The Laboratory will enable students to gain up-to-date knowledge
and experience in the sphere of security technologies and will,
therefore, facilitate their career prospects. Doc. Ing. Luděk Lukáš,
CSc. from the FAI Department of Electrotechnics and Measurements
introduced the Laboratory as follows: “The workplace is
primarily intended for students enrolled on the degree course in
Security Technologies, Systems and Management that has been
taught at TBU for 7 years. The Laboratory is aimed to be used by
students in Bachelor’s as well as follow-up Master’s programmes.”
The Laboratory will also be used in the sphere of research and
FAI Hosted a Security Engineering Conference
On the occasion of the opening of the
Laboratory of Advanced Security Technologies
the Faculty of Applied Informatics
hosted a meeting of the committee of
the Engineering and Security Services Association
Gremium Alarm.
“The aim of the meeting was to acquaint
the Association with education in the
sphere of security technologies provided
at our Faculty and present our new laboratories,”
said doc. Ing. Luděk Lukáš, CSc.
from the FAI Department of Electrotechnics
and Measurements. “During the
meeting we discussed with the Association
its involvement in the preparations for the
international conference entitled Long-
Technology Transfer Centre Opened
The Technology Transfer Centre has been in operation as part
of the TBU University Institute since the beginning of January.
The workplace that bears this name is expected to help
the TBU research workers and the firms they cooperate with
to apply research and development results to industrial practice.
It offers a wide range of services to its users, e.g. investigation
into the knowledge novelty, or patent situations of a product
or technology, patent search, search in patent databases,
databases of industrial patterns or trademarks, or recommendation
of a suitable type of legal protection of products. “We
offer specialist processing of patent applications or trademarks
and also direct representation for a client before the Industrial
Property Office (IPO), the European Patent Office
and other institutions,” Ing. Jindřiška Ondráčková, director
of the University Institute, describes the main activities of the
Term Security Technologies for Property
Protection. This conference will be guaranteed
by our Department and will take
place in Brno on 15 May 2008 within the
accompanying programme to the
PYROS/ISET 2008 International Fair,”
doc. Lukáš added.
The Gremium Alarm is a professional association
of firms and subjects that perform
activities in the sphere of
engineering services and facilities used
for personal and property protection.
The Association runs the only inspection
body in the Czech Republic that is in
charge of assessing the quality of security
devices.
spheres of security technologies, such as camera systems, integrated
security systems, input control systems, and biometrical
identification elements. Experiments will be carried out for example
on the identification elements using fingerprints and
‘faceprint’ relief for the identification of persons. In the sphere of
camera systems the research is expected to be done not only on
image information recording in various light conditions, but also
on the analysis of this information for various security applications.
“Accessible technologies providing a link between final elements
and control computer will also be tested,” commented
Ing. Rudolf Drga from the Department of Electrotechnics and
Measurements. The Laboratory is furthermore expected to be interconnected
to a similar laboratory focusing on intelligent
buildings technology.
“There are similar laboratories working at several Czech higher education
institutions, however, not to such an extent,” doc. Luděk
Lukáš said.
Technology Transfer Centre and adds the following: “University
employees as well as firms have shown great interest in the
services offered by the Centre. In January we prepared and
submitted at the IPO a patent application of TBU employees,
an international trademark application and three national
trademark applications of firms. Moreover, we have prepared
for submission three international trademarks and a national
trademark for firms, two industrial patterns for firms and we
are dealing with requirements for technical solution applications
of TBU employees that will result in a patent application
or a utility pattern application.”
The establishment of the Technology Transfer Centre is part
of the Technology Park project. Besides TBU, the Centre has
been co-financed by the European Regional Development
Fund and by the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Czech
Republic.
V
V tomto akademickém roce mohla naše
akademická obec zaregistrovat zahájení
nové aktivity – klubu určeného všem příznivcům
šachu. Projekt vznikl z iniciativy
studentů FaME UTB za podpory Ústavu
tělesné výchovy a vedení fakulty. Členství
v klubu je bezplatné a snahou členů klubu
je obnovit duch královské hry, který kdysi
reprezentoval naši vysokou školu. Primárně
se Šachový klub UTB soustředí na prezentaci
pravidel a všeobecného užitku této společenské
hráči, a to nejčastěji „rapid“ formou. Tako-
vými hráči klub také disponuje. Další příležitostí
je chystaný celouniverzitní turnaj
pod názvem TBU Chess Open, který organizátoři
připravují na začátek letního semestru.
Do přeboru se bude moci
zaregistrovat student bakalářského, magisterského
či doktorského studia, každý pedagog
či jiný pracovník UTB.
Momentální složení členů se vyznačuje
rozmanitou šachovou zdatností, oborovou
orientací i národní příslušností, kterou
zpestřují především studenti doktorských
programů. Nadále bude snahou udržovat
pohodovou atmosféru a fair-play přístup,
ale klub také počítá s rozšiřováním svých
aktivit za účelem motivace stálých členů
a zaujmutí dosud váhajících zájemců.
prof. Ing. Ignác Hoza, CSc., kteří zde zároveň
podepsali smlouvu o spolupráci mezi
Zlínským krajem a UTB.
„Ve Zlíně je řada restaurací i klubů, ale
žádný z těchto podniků není určen pouze
pro studenty. Chtěli jsme proto získat takové
místo, kde se studenti budou moci nejen
občerstvit, ale také si třeba jen tak
popovídat s přáteli,“ uvedl posluchač UTB
Ing. Tomáš Karlík, který klub provozuje.
„Klub je vybaven také promítacím plátnem
s dataprojektorem, proto jej budeme moci
využít i pro konání menších workshopů
nebo prezentací. Plánujeme samozřejmě
také sportovní přenosy,“ doplnil Karlík.
Projekt studentského klubu má podporu
vedení UTB. Klub tak může nejen sídlit v
univerzitních prostorách, ale univerzita přispěla
částkou téměř 800 tisích korun na jeho
vybavení. Barevné provedení stěn klubu je
dílem studentů FMK.
třetím místě tabulky. „Pokud naše děvčata budou i nadále pokračovat
do druhé ligy,“ uvedl ředitel Ústavu tělesné výchovy
Mgr. Zdeněk Melichárek.
Do druhé ligy mají nakročeno i univerzitní reprezentanti ve
squashi. V současné době vedou muži tabulku své skupiny 3.
ligy a dosud neztratili ani bod. Držme proto oběma oddílům
palce, ať se jim postup podaří.
Students Opened Their Own Club
The new student club that was opened in the Hall of Residence
nám. T. G. Masaryka is aimed at all students in Zlín. The festive
opening of the club was attended by the district commissioner of the
Zlín Region, Libor Lukáš and by TBU Rector, Prof. Ing. Ignác
Hoza, CSc. who signed a contract on cooperation between the Zlín
Region and TBU.
“There are a number of restaurants and clubs in Zlín, however, none
of these is intended for students only. We therefore wanted to create
a place where students could not only refresh themselves, but also
have a chat with their friends,” said TBU student Ing. Tomáš Karlík,
who runs the club. He added: “We can also hold workshops or
make presentations in the club, since it is equipped with a projection
screen and a data projector. We are planning some sports events
broadcast projections to take place in the club as well.”
The student club project enjoys the support of the TBU management.
Not only can it be situated in the University premises, but the
University has also contributed almost CZK 800,000 towards the
equipment cost. The wall paint colours were designed by students
Chess Club Evokes the Spirit of the ’King’s Game’
At the beginning of this school year TBU
academic community could have noticed
the opening of a club intended for all
chess fans. The project was initiated by
FaME students and supported by the
Department of Physical Training and the
Faculty management. The membership is
free of charge. Members of the Club primarily
attempt to evoke the spirit of the
“King’s Game” that once represented our
University. The TBU Chess Club concentrates
predominantly on the promotion of
the rules and benefits of this parlour
game for the broad academic community,
and the benefit to the development of
logic-deductive thinking skills in particular.
Skilled champions seeking possibilities of
pitting their strength against active or former
league players in a ‘rapid’ match are
also offered many opportunities, since
there are such players in the Club. Or they
may take up the opportunity to participate
in the upcoming all-University tournament
entitled TBU Chess Open. The tournament
will take place at the beginning of
the summer semester and will be open to
students of all degree programmes, TBU
The TBU Sports Club has currently 14 active clubs with almost
1,000 members in total. Some of its clubs not only offer
the opportunity to participate in leisure time sports activities,
but are also successfully engaged in performance sports. Despite
the relatively short existence of the University Sports
Club, some of its clubs intend to achieve success in league
competitions.
The female volleyball club takes part in the regional championship
this season and having played half the matches so far the
players occupy third place in the table. Mgr. Zdeněk
Melichárek, Head of the Department of Physical Training, said:
“If the girls continue achieving good results, I believe that they
will manage to be promoted to the second league.”
University squash players also aim to be promoted to the second
league. Male players lead the third league table in its division at
the present time and have not lost a single point so far. Let’s all
keep our fingers crossed for both clubs, so that they succeed in
the promotion!
teachers and other employees.
The contemporary member structure
can be characterized by rich diversity in
the level of ability, specialization and
nationality, the latter particularly in case
of PhD students. In future, the emphasis
will be laid on maintaining a relaxed
and friendly atmosphere and fair-play.
Nevertheless, the Club is also expected
to make its activities more dynamic in
order to motivate its permanent members
and attract the attention of those
who still hesitate whether to join the
Club or not. checkmate@utb.cz
within the Erasmus programme. Petr Bobek and Jaroslav Stančík
within Erasmus. On our arrival at the local airport a coordinator
was waiting for us, she showed us round the campus and then
drove us to the flat we had arranged prior to our arrival due to
a lower price. The following day she introduced us to a professor
that helped us in searching for suitable projects. We had to see to
the remaining arrangements on our own.
We lived in a typical terraced house in the suburbs. The accommodation
was of sufficient standard, but corresponded to the price we
paid for it (half the price for accommodation in halls of residence).
Internet access and approximately a 12-minute walk from the campus
were some of the advantages of our accommodation.
Our studies consisted in developing a project that we could choose
from a wide range of offers from different spheres of informatics.
naší finanční situace jsme si našli brigádu
Pobyt v Nottinghamu oba dva hodnotíme
jako příjemnou zkušenost. Kromě dalšího
jsme se naučili více tolerovat multikulturní
využít jednu z výhod dnešní EU. “
Jarda worked on the development of a device that would balistically
identify the projectile shot. We had to use and follow Gantt
charts during our work and we had to go to tutorials. At the beginning
we took up the offer of attending various courses, but later
on we had to give up due to lack of time. We were offered the possibility
of attending a language course aimed at Erasmus students
that took place every Wednesday. The environment at the University
was hugely multicultural. For example, Jarda worked under the
supervision of a doctor from Malaysia that cooperated on this project
with an Australian university. We finally managed to finish the
projects and, consequently, they have recognized some of the subjects
at TBU.
The scholarship that we had been granted from the University covered
approximately 80–90% of the costs related to our study
abroad. In order to improve our financial situation we found a parttime
job in a local disco club. We both regard our stay in Nottingham
as a pleasant experience. Apart from other things, we learned
to tolerate multicultural society that will for sure become part of everyday
life also in our country. We were able to utilize one of the advantages
offered by today’s EU.”
