Leo Kottke is probably the best 12string
guitarist on the road today; his
foggy, attrac{ive voice (he once likened
it to goose farts on a damp morning)
and his warm and selfdeprecating personal'lty
have helped make him a favourhe
with guitar fans and "new age"
music enthusiasts alike. He visited
Toronto recenlly with fellow-guitarist
Michael Hedges, with whom he has
been touring, and followed it up with a
Bathurst Street Theatre solo show a
few weeks ago.
GOOD LUCK
MARIPOSA FESTIVAL
for a very successful event
Lyle Lovett has become an important
nEw voice in country music with the
success of his second ahum for MGA,
Pontirc, and hE is making his first
Toronto-area appearanoe with this visit
to Mariposa. Originally from Texas, Lovett
was "discovered'by Guy Clark,
and his fusion of country, folk and jazz
influences makes his music unique.
Lyle is bringing his full 11-piece band to
Mariposa, and if he causes a lew raised
eyebrows, the subtlety, charm and humour
of the music will entrance you.
Magoo is one of the organizers (the
president, in fact) of the Blue Sky Festival
in Glarendon, Ont., and hE is also
their MC and resident character. He
has a rubber face, a bealen-up guitar,
and he has been known to bark at audiences
- but it's all in great good fun.
He'll be one of the MC's at Mariposa,
and you couldnl find a more intriguing,
amusing man lo do the job.
