The Four Uniform
Acceleration
Equations
Quick Check
Four equations describing uniform acceleration were introduced above. These four
equations are extremely useful in this course and in future courses you might take in
physics. For your convenience, they are summarized here:
(1) v f = v 0 + at
(2) d = v0 + vf • t
2
(3) d = v0t + 1
2 at2
(4) v2 f = v2 0 + 2ad
1. What is the initial velocity of a car accelerating east at 3.0 m/s 2 for 5.0 s and reaching a final velocity of
25.0 m/s east?
2. If we assume acceleration is uniform, how far does a plane travel when it lands at 16.0 m/s west and comes to
rest in 8.0 s?
3. What is the stopping distance of a car if it accelerates at –9.29 m/s 2 and has an initial velocity of 100 km/h.
