Synonyms are words that have very similar meanings. A<br />

thesaurus contains lists of synonyms. A dictionary often includes<br />

synonyms for a word along with the word’s definition.<br />

aroma n. smell, scent, odor<br />

brave adj. courageous, fearless<br />

dog n. hound, mutt, pooch<br />

village n. metropolis, town, city<br />

Use the thesaurus entries in the box to find synonyms for the<br />

underlined word in each sentence. Rewrite each sentence using<br />

one of the synonyms.<br />

2. The brave fi refi ghter rescued three people from the burning building.<br />
