Name Sometimes words have one spelling but two distinct pronunciations and two different meanings. These words are called homographs. You can use a dictionary to learn the different definitions and pronunciations of a homograph. For example, if you look up the word bass in a dictionary, you will find that it is a kind of fish (pronounced with a short a vowel sound). You will also find that bass pronounced with a long a vowel sound) refers to a deep sound or tone. Use a dictionary to write the meanings and pronunciations of these homographs.
