A word root is part of a word that does not usually stand by itself<br />

as a base word. Prefixes or suffixes are attached to a word root.<br />

Many word roots are Latin in origin. If you know the meaning of<br />

the Latin root, you can figure out the meaning of an unfamiliar<br />

word.<br />

Read each sentence. Write the meaning of each boldface word on<br />

the line provided. Use the table of Latin roots below to help you<br />
