After the uproar about the death of Comrade Vijay Mitra, the<br />

Government had suspended Dr. C.K. Bhagat and formed an inquiry<br />

commission of three members. The commission was to submit<br />

its report within fifteen days and keeping the sensitivity of the<br />

issue in view, was instructed to focus its inquiry on following<br />

points:<br />

a) The real cause of the death of the patient Vijay Mitra under<br />

treatment of Dr. C.K. Bhagat.<br />

b) Dr. C.K. Bhagat doing duty in I.C.C.U. on the night of 1 st January<br />

despite his being off-duty.<br />

c) Personal conduct of Dr. C.K. Bhagat.<br />

d) And the legal validity of the death certificate issued by Dr.<br />

C.K. Bhagat.<br />

Dr. Rajnish Acharya, Cardiologist, Dr. Jeevkant Yadav, Neurologist<br />

and Dr. Ramashish Dev, Psychiatrist were members of the inquiry<br />

commission. Specialists of their respective fields, they began their<br />

work by taking into view the witnesses, their statements and the<br />

circumstances. They summoned each and every party related to<br />

this enquiry and asked them to give their statement. All concerned<br />

parties cooperated and gave their statements as follows:<br />

This is true that on the night of first January, I didn’t have the<br />

duty at Cardiology, so I was in my quarters. I was just conducting
