Birdman of Las Vegas
It’s one thing to train a dog to do a trick…
it’s quite another to train a wild animal. And
then there is “The Birdman of Las Vegas”—
Joe Krathwohl. This is a phenomenal show
that is educational and yet overpowering
in its scope of entertainment value. You’ll
wonder where the time went as your
senses return after seeing this show. This
famous Las Vegas show features everything
from Eagles to Macaws, Falcons to Cranes,
Cockatoos to Storks, Owls to Pigeons, Parrots
to Ravens, and even a 10 foot wingspan
Condor, in routines that highlight both their
natural behaviors and their intelligence, and all in one avian extravaganza. The
Birdman is dedicated to presenting birds with positive training techniques for
the very best of their physical and mental well-being. As part of every show, The
Birdman educates the audiences about each species, its status in the wild, and
other interesting and amazing facts. These are the very same bird-stars who
have been featured on Late Night with David Letterman, the Animal Planet,
The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, TV Specials with Siegfried and Roy and David
Copperfield, and in major Las Vegas hotels including the Venetian, Caesars Palace,
The Tropicana and the Excalibur.

Page’s White Tiger Show
The lovely, young Vicenta Page and her White
Bengal Tigers will thrill and amaze you. One of
the youngest female tiger trainers-presenters in
the world, Vicenta Page has spent the last four
years touring with Ringling Bros.-Barnum and
Bailey Circus. Ms. Page will share with you her
family story, her upbringing in the circus world,
and her unique way of raising the White Bengal
Tigers. You will be awed by the sheer brawn
and beauty of these animals, and the way they
interact with their beloved trainer. This is their
first time at the New Mexico State Fair.

Mountainboards Big Air Show
Spins, flips and rail slides are an integral part of this
high energy show, which is brand new to the New
Mexico State Fair this year. With music pumping,
riders launch into mind-bending moves that you
probably don’t need to be reminded not to try at
home. This show has all the thrills—and occasional
spills—an audience could want. Combine this with
major audience participation and a deep sense of
“How did they do that?” and you’ve got yourself
one heck of a show.

Slingshot Thrill Ride
A longtime favorite of New Mexico State
Fairgoers of all ages. Probably the only place
on the grounds where you can grab a laugh
at gown men shrieking like 14-year-old girls as
they’re launched 240 feet into thin air—often
accompanied by their own shrieking 14-yearold
daughters—at over 100 miles per hour. It
ain’t called a “thrill ride” for nothin’.
Location: Southeast Corner of the
Food Court
Hours: daily; 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Mapapa African Acrobats
They’re back! The Mapapa African Acrobats were
so popular two years ago; they are back at the
2012 New Mexico State Fair by popular demand.
Originating in Mombasa, Kenya they have performed
in over 25 countries in the last ten years, including
Australia, China, Korea, Germany, France, Italy
and Spain. Masters of “afrobatics”, this troupe puts
on a show that will entertain, impress and amuse
you. Besides their athletic abilities, the Mapapa’s
performances will have you clapping along with their
energetic antics.

Schedule: Monday-Thursday: 1:30 p.m.,
4 p.m., 6:30 p.m.; Friday-Sunday: 11 a.m.,
1:30 p.m., 4 p.m., 6:30 p.m.
PLEASE NOTE: The Mapapa African Acrobats will be Strolling entertainment
on Friday, September 21 to accommodate the Junior Livestock Sale. Also, on Friday,
Saturday and Sunday, September 14-16, there will not be a 6:30 p.m. show
to accommodate the Western Music Association event at the Box Car
Stage. See page 40 for details.
Rock It Up Zip Line
Picture the Sandia Peak Tramway, only a
lot shorter and with no tram-cars to ride
in and you’ll get the picture. Plus, by now,
we’ve all seen the “Wheeee” pig in the TV
commercials cruising down a zip line. Get
ready to strap in for the ride of your life
high above a portion of the picturesque
Fairgrounds, zipping from one end of the
line to the other. Brand new to the New
Mexico State Fair at Lynette’s request, the It
Up Zip Line is sure to draw big crowds and
long lines, so be prepared. But rest assured it
will be worth the wait!
