HEAVY INDUSTRY

...THE SPECIALIST FOR HIGH-PERFORMANCE GEAR SYSTEMS
...the driving force...
…in the steel industry.

Contents
A manufacturer of special gear units concentrating on segments
of the steel and metals industry, Eisenbeiss is a familyrun
business with a flat hierarchy and fast decision-making
processes and strong customer orientation. The highly efficient
scale of the company is extremely conducive to constant
development, internationalisation and innovation.
On the following pages you will find a selection of gear units
designed for highly specialised applications. For Eisenbeiss,
specialisation is the sign of true problem solving. Not only do
products and services meet requirements exactly, they also
offer a high degree of operational stability, reliability and a
long service life.
Quality and precision always have been and always will be
the basis of our company philosophy. As a producer of special
gear systems, process-oriented manufacturing (from
planning to after-sales service) is the foundation for speed
and flexibility. We consider a modern machine park and investments
in future-oriented technologies to be absolutely
essential in strengthening our own competitiveness.
Blast furnace

Oxygen lances
Eisenbeiss winch gear units for oxygen lances
can safely transfer torques of up to
150,000 Nm. This application field calls for
complete reliability in emergency situations.
Besides the main drive there is also an emergency
drive possibility which is linked to the
main drive strand via a planetary gear, thus
ensuring the necessary reliability.

Crane

Lifting mechanism
Eisenbeiss gears for the lifting mechanisms
of heavy-duty cranes have torques up to
800,000 Nm or motor outputs of up to
1,000 kW. With these gear systems particular
attention is attached to weight optimisation
and a narrow design. Eisenbeiss
gears have minimum power loss thanks to
special efficiency optimisation. This ensures
that heat build-up is kept to an absolute minimum
and there is no need for additional
cooling, even in high-duty operation.
Lifting mechanism
with two drives
Eisenbeiss uses superimposed planetary
gear systems to help realise two-motor
drives for full or half lifting speed. Thanks to
this drive redundancy the lifting gear remains
operational even if one motor fails.
Travelling unit
Travelling units for cranes have a torque
from 6,000 Nm to 70,000 Nm. The design is
either as a DIN gear system, whereby the
torques are around three times higher than
the standard specification or in accordance
with the Eisenbeiss standard developed for
it. In this case the toothing is optimised to
the static strength at which wheel slip occurs.
This results in smaller and, at the same
time, more reliable gears for our customers
for this application.

Continuous casting line

Ladle turret
These ladle turret drives have an output torque
of up to 200,000 Nm. The particularly robust
design with a separate superimposed drive
ensures optimum operational reliability even in
emergency situations such as power cuts, for
example. Additionally the gear features integrated
protection against shock loads through
imprecise ladle positioning. A modular system
enables the rapid realisation of a variety of
sizes depending on ladle weight and with
various drive forms (electric, pneumatic,
hydraulic).
Continuous casting driver
Eisenbeiss bevel gear units for continuous casting
drivers have transmissions up to 800 and
output torque up to 70,000 Nm. Temperatures up
to 160°C and large amounts of cooling water,
dust and strong vibrations represent extreme
chal- lenges. This requirement is met through an
integrated cooling system and a special seal. The
internal lubrication is handled by pumps built
especially for this purpose that can withstand
these tough conditions and the extreme fluctuations
in temperature.
Roller table and
transport systems
These gear solutions stand out through their
compact design and high performance.
Special seals are used to protect against
the high amounts of scale and ensure the
gear does not develop premature leaks as
a result of contamination. Even the configuration
of the toothing geometry takes into
account this high-impact operation.

Hot rolling mill

Pinion gears
The horizontal and vertical drives of wire
and profile lines are subject to a number of
highly specific requirements. The ambient
conditions, for example, are more than
harsh. This ranges from the cooling water
that flows over the gear to the extreme
amounts of dust and scale that occur.
These conditions have been accounted for
down to the very last detail in an Eisenbeiss
gear programme developed especially for
this purpose.
Complete technical data and gear specification
sheets help your development engineers
to find the right gear fast for it to be planned
for use in your plant. Thanks to these existing
concepts we are able to offer you fast delivery
times and, following on from this, rapid
implementation of your project.
Wire rolling mills
Gears with modified bearing assemblies
and dynamically balanced premium-grade
shafts in fast running wire rolling mills
ensure extremely smooth operation and a
genuinely longer service life of up to 80,000
hours. Special labyrinth seals on the output
shaft protect against both cooling water entering
and oil escaping. Wire rolling speeds
of up to 120m/s can be realised with these
Eisenbeiss concepts.

Cold rolling mill

Twin-drive mill
stand gears
Twin-drive gears output up to 6 MW divided
between two independent drive shafts.
Modern calculation methods for toothing
and shafts, combined with state-of-the-art
processing machines for corrected toothing,
enable short work roll gaps. In connection
with the high strength of the casing and
low-vibration design of the bevel gears, rolling
flawless strip is child's play.
Single-drive mill
stand gears
Our single-drive gears stand out through
their compact horizontal or vertical designs.
The high power density of the double helical
gearing enables the transmission of up to
6 MW with pinion distances of only 400 mm
in parts. The use of open-die forging shafts
means that no shaft/hub collar connection
is required in the gear unit. No feather key
can be squashed and no gear shaft connection
can be damaged even in the event of
the strip tearing. Thanks to the additional
use of proprietary brand bearings with solid
cages we are able to supply long-lasting,
robust stand drives for tandem mills or reversing
mills with a service life of up to
100,000 hours.

Strip processing

Payoff and take-up reel
Our units are preassembled with finished wiring
to reduce interfaces with subcontractors and,
therefore, simplify handling for our customers.
Bridle roll drives
Thanks to standardised designs, gears for
bridle roll drives can be supplied quickly. This
range is available for torques from 5.4 to
280 kNm and transmissions between 3.55 and
315. The special gear design for efficiency
optimisation means that additional cooling is
not necessary in a wide range of areas. As a
result, no elaborate lubrication systems with
sensitive components are required. The gears
remain straightforward and reliable. The highquality
brand bearings fitted inside also ensure
high availability for our customers and service
jobs are reduced to an absolute minimum.
Accumulator winch
This application involves high stress while
in a stationary state which is why these
units are designed to withstand high static
loads. The result is specially developed
toothing in connection with a special type
of immersion lubrication system. This
means that sizes smaller than comparable
standard gears can be realised, saving
both time and money.

Tension levellers

Tension leveller drive
systems
Our tension leveller drive systems stand out
through top energy efficiency with control accuracy
that is up to 20 times higher. This is made
possible with the help of a mechanical tension
system based on superimposed planetary gears.
Because the drive rollers are interlocked mechanically
with the brake rollers the mechanical power
rating required is reduced by more than 80%.
With the help of compact planetary systems, individual
roll torque of up to 300 kNm and strip
speeds of up to 500 m/min can be achieved with
minimum space requirements. An additional degree
of freedom for control means that varying
roll diameters are no longer an issue. As a result,
this Eisenbeiss gear solution reduces the operating
costs of the entire system.
Levelling machines
Sophisticated distribution systems combined
with expert plant knowledge about the development
of torque in the levelling process enable us
to produce gears with a typical 4 to 17 output
shafts. High toothing quality with the possibility
of a wide range of corrections, plus modern calculation
processes, are the basis for extremely
small output shaft distances with a long bearing
service life up to 50,000 hours.
