BSC’s
ArtsQuest
Celebrates Life
By Candace Gerhardt
If artists reflect different facets of our
lives, the way diamonds reflect light, then
Bismarck State College’s ArtsQuest is a gem
for our community. ArtsQuest is a celebration
of music, visual art, theatre, film and literature
running throughout April and into May on
BSC’s campus.
Talented artists from the college and community,
as well as nationally and internationally
known guest artists will gather to present
their art, most of which is free to the public.
Don’t miss the kick-off musical April 1-5,
“A Man of No Importance,” a weaving of Irish
music and story of a middle-aged bus conductor
and director of local plays, who wrestles
with friendship and temptation in conservative
Dublin in the 1960s.
Barbara Jirges, a BSC art history instructor and
chairperson of the festival, says other highlights
include Oni Buchanan bringing poetry to life
in her piano concert on April 17 in the Sidney
J. Lee Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. and guitarist
David Burgess, recognized internationally by
musicians and critics as a virtuoso, performing
May 1 in the auditorium at 7:30 p.m.
Jirges has a whirlwind of recommendations.
She’s excited about the film festival,
student art displays, readings from “Figments
of Imagination” and “Off-the-Wall”—student-
