From the outset, the Durisol system was
developed to give designers, specifiers and
contractors real flexibility with outstanding all
round performance. The system offers a range
of unique benefits and meets all current and
planned regulations and recommendations for
sustainable building construction.
Based upon interlocking modular units (with or without integral
insulation) Durisol blocks are dry stacked - without the need for
a bed of mortar. The blocks are then in-

filled with concrete to form a monolithic
structural walling system. The external
and internal faces are then completed
with a finish applied directly to the
Durisol wall surface.

a very low embodied energy manufacturing process that
includes natural curing with no requirement for ovens or
kilns, and harvested rain water for the manufacturing process.

Interserve - one of the world’s foremost
support services and construction companies.
Durisol was able to assist Interserve in achieving a build to
Passivhaus standards by the use of Celotex PIR insulation
incorporated into the 365mm wide unit which not only reduced
its U value to 0.15 but ensured the insulation remained in the
correct position throughout the construction process. This will
save the tenant, Interserve, over £20,000 pa on their heating
cost and as well as a CO2 emission reduction of 92 tonnes
compared to their current offices of a similar size.

Simplicity of build - for Braunton Caen School
The extension to Braunton Caen School required a quick single
storey construction with good U values and acoustics.
After consultation with the structural engineer, the
reinforcement was removed, other than that required to form
lintels. Karen Crutchfield, Head Teacher at Braunton was highly
