Quinte Students Structures<br />

Quinte Secondary <strong>School</strong> students are eager to work on<br />

construction of a new home. It will be the seventh home<br />

constructed in a unique arrangement where students work<br />

alongside skill trades workers. The senior students are in the<br />

Quinte Student Structures program, a Specialist High Skills<br />

Major offered by the school.<br />

Quinte Student Structures is a Ministry of Education-accredited<br />

program that provides students with an opportunity to focus their<br />

Our <strong>2011</strong> golf tournament was greatly enjoyed by all golfers, as<br />

well as being a financial success: Raising almost $30,000 for our<br />

Student Emergency Fund.<br />

Congratulations to our first ‘Student Team’, from Bayside<br />

Secondary <strong>School</strong>, as they won the Top Mixed Team title.<br />

Finally, a heartfelt thank you to all those that participated<br />

learning in a skilled trade area while meeting the requirements of<br />

the Ontario Secondary <strong>School</strong> Diploma (OSSD). The specialized<br />

program is to help prepare students to make a successful transition<br />

from secondary school to apprenticeship training, college,<br />

university or directly into the workforce. The program enables<br />

students to gain sector-specific skills <strong>and</strong> knowledge through<br />

the complete experience of building a house, <strong>and</strong> helps them to<br />

achieve graduation while pursuing their post-secondary goals.<br />

Students also learn team-building <strong>and</strong> leadership skills which<br />

they will utilize well beyond their secondary school experience.<br />
