THS Track Quest:
Major Funding Announcement
On October 4th, the THS Track Quest project received a major
funding boost from both the City of Quinte West and the family
of Doug Whitley & Whitley Insurance. These are key donations
that will bring the fundraising phase that much closer to the goal
of raising $500,000.
THS TRACK QUEST is a community based initiative geared towards rebuilding the track
and field complex at Trenton High School. The Quinte West community and students
will be provided with a first class, modern track as a result of this ambitious community
project. Track Quest is spearheaded by the Trenton High School Alumni Association,
working in conjunction with its partners: the City of Quinte West, the Hastings and Prince
Edward District School Board, and The Hastings and Prince Edward Learning Foundation
(HPELF).
“Together, the Partners are seeing this endeavor through to the finish-line, states Campaign
Co-Chair Duncan Armstrong. The Alumni Association has worked tirelessly over the
past six months raising funds. They’ve sent out a community mailer, conducted on-line
campaigns, requested significant major donations, and organized a golf tournament.”
For the family of Doug Whitley, the significant
donation that was presented is a gift in memory of
their father. “Our dad felt a personal commitment
to the success of this project, and our gift is
a tribute to him. He was one of the first people
to endorse and commit to making a new track a
reality”, states son Paul Whitley.
Mayor Williams presented a cheque for
$150,000, representing the funds pledged by
Quinte West Council towards the project, at
the October 4th event. Mayor Williams has
noted that, “Council chose to support THS
Track Quest as students, their families and
community residents will all benefit from a
refurbished, modern track facility. It’s truly a
community resource.”
Paul Whitley who is also the Track Quest
Campaign Co-Chair, views these two major gifts as “…rounding the final corner and
heading into the homestretch. It’s a sprint to the finish line from here, and we want to
encourage our community to help us reach it.”
