Dear Mr. Hamilton, Mr. Bruneau and Ms. Edwards;
As Chair of the Hastings and Prince Edward Learning Foundation, I would like to
thank you for participating in “The Prom Project”. Your donation of dry cleaning,
bagging and storing the dresses, suits, etc. was very generous. This valuable donation
has made Prom Night and/or Grade 8 graduation much more accessible to all students
within Hastings and Prince Edward Counties.
Several wonderful stories have come to us with respect to the Prom Project and I
would like to share one with you.
At one of the sites, a young girl walked through the gym doors and made a b-line for
a bubblegum pink satin gown. She took it off the rack and headed right to the change
room. “I am so excited…this is the best day of my life!” she said to her friend. One of
the volunteers at this site knew that the gown was a bit big for her, but she also knew
that there was a “seamstress extraordinaire” at the school who would make the dress fit
to perfection… and she did. This young girl had lost her mom to cancer (after a 6 year
battle with the disease). Thanks to this initiative, this young woman will look gorgeous
at her event.
As Frank Gielen, our Foundation Treasurer noted, “We will never be able to measure
the effect of the Prom Project, but it is clear that this opportunity has made a big
difference to our students, their parents and the community.”
