Suspended sediments are a good indicator of contaminant levels in the aquatic environment, especially for those contaminants which are found at low concentrations in river water. 2. Although tetra-chlorinated dioxin and furan levels have decreased since 1990, chlorinated pulp mill contaminants are still detectable in the receiving environment. 3. Pulp mill contaminants and PAHs are higher in concentration during winter base flow conditions. 4.
