<strong>abas</strong> <strong>ERP</strong> in machine and plant engineering<br />

Today, purchasing and production already starts with items that are required in the fifth<br />

structure level, even though the structure levels 1- 4 have not been produced. With the<br />

structured, planned release option of the individual assemblies and the editable quota-<br />

tion and sales order BOM, <strong>abas</strong> <strong>ERP</strong> perfectly supports the "growing BOM structure" of<br />

machine and plant engineering companies.<br />

As <strong>abas</strong> <strong>ERP</strong> depicts the project in an integrated structure from the very beginning, con-<br />

current costing and the fully integrated cost object accounting can support the project<br />

controlling at any time.<br />

Customized BOM structure is saved in a BOM archive which is linked to the machine<br />

specification sheet. Subsequent modifications are also documented in this archive or service<br />

BOM. The service department has all the information required to support the customers.<br />

Many of the software vendors who offered their <strong>ERP</strong> software in 1990 are no longer<br />

represented on the market. After a quick implementation, the <strong>abas</strong> <strong>ERP</strong> system was<br />

used intensively. After several years without an upgrade, <strong>abas</strong> <strong>ERP</strong> had to compete<br />

once again with three competitors in 2002. After the decision was made to continue<br />

using <strong>abas</strong> <strong>ERP</strong>, a reengineering project was set up to forge new paths and signifi-<br />

cantly increase the efficiency of processes, among other things. The upgrades have<br />

been carried out regularly since then in order to permanently remain up to date and<br />

of the software. Company-specific adjustments were easily implemented. The<br />

relatively small hardware requirements and the underlying dat<strong>abas</strong>e structure are<br />

another plus. The new company organization could also be depicted in the <strong>ERP</strong><br />

software. An important criteria for success is the increased stock level accuracy,<br />

and a warehouse management system from Schäfer - Noll is connected to <strong>abas</strong><br />

<strong>ERP</strong> in addition. A means to control material is being used in production so that<br />

The German company decided to select a new <strong>ERP</strong> software in 2005. <strong>abas</strong> <strong>ERP</strong><br />

competed against three other providers in the final selection round. The selection<br />

team evaluated the respective offers, paying special attention to their flexibility,<br />

transparency, the user friendliness of the systems, and the options for creating indi-<br />

vidual solutions using personal adjustments. These characteristics were so important<br />

because owner-managed company it comprised of three independent departments<br />

(trade, construction, and repair) which nevertheless overlap each other very often.<br />

The implementation took a surprisingly short amount of time thanks to the well-<br />

developed project plan, the implementation concept, and the competent support<br />

of the project leader from the supporting <strong>abas</strong> partner. The company experienced<br />

much success after going live. The <strong>abas</strong> Business <strong>Software</strong> greatly reduced the pro-<br />

IST Metz GmbH is one of the first customers of <strong>ABAS</strong> <strong>Software</strong> <strong>AG</strong>. The company<br />

opted for the <strong>ERP</strong> solution way back in 1988. The decisive factors in favor of<br />

<strong>abas</strong> <strong>ERP</strong> were its costs, the implementation and adjustment effort, and its<br />

flexibility, as well as the economic situation of the provider. Since IST regularly<br />

imports new releases and upgrades, new functions and modern technologies are<br />

always being added. IST requires half a day to a whole day to import a new<br />

release. The requirements of IST are very company-specific, so the solution was<br />

therefore adjusted to the processes. The BOM, for example, grows successively<br />

with the progress of the sales order. Changes at short notice require a very high<br />

flexibility and a special workflow. The necessary adjustments have been carried<br />

cabinets to large rows of switch cabinets as low-voltage distribution systems and<br />

to-order production to projects in small batches. The cabinet systems are primarily<br />

used in the fields of mechanical and plant engineering (palletizing systems, filter<br />
