Paper and tissue production lines can benefi t from MDS expertise in the engineering, design, development and manufacture
of performant Yankee Hoods that can be classifi ed in 2 families of products better known under the generic names of MG
Hoods and Tissue Yankee Hoods. Here below are some of the main features that demonstrate MDS’ strategy towards
innovation and reliability.
HOOD DESIGN
• Heavy-duty stable frame ensuring extended and stable performance and taking care of Yankee dryer surface
• Design distance 30 mm from Yankee, the best effi ciency vs. safety
• High-insulation and waterproof panels for extreme operating dew point and minimal energy consumption
• Fine and regular tuning of air fl ows spread in both CD and MD, including manually balanced air dampers and
primary ducts (CD pitch ≤ 1000)
• Gentle exhaust repartition avoiding web sucking and take-off everywhere around the active area
• SMARTAIR nozzles concept (Air knives), the only one offering the highest drying rates compared to similar
equipments available, and giving versatility to follow up machines' evolution to meet markets' demand
• High effi ciency fans driven by frequency variators for minimal electricity consumption
• Wide doors easily accessible from walkways for inspection, cleaning and eventual inside maintenance
• Perfect air balance whatever machine speed; no migration of air in both MD & CD; no hot air loss at dry end, nor
hazardous and penalizing fresh air introduction on both edges and wet-end side
• Fire detection and steam extinguishing system taking care of your machine

Capitalizing on more than 50 years of know-how and experience in hood technology, MDS is a full-scope supplier of
reliable equipments dedicated to paper and tissue mills, and a well-known provider of state-of-the-art solutions.
MDS Hoods are suitable for any production and machine speed; they offer better energy consumption rates than any
other equipment available on the market.
The design of SMARTAIR nozzles gives a higher heat transfer up to 20% compared to all other hoods, and allows
to decrease the operating temperature by up to 50 to 80°C for the same production. As a result, heat consumption
reduction can reach up to 6% of total heat demand (steam + gas) or up to 10% of gas consumption.
The above fi gures are only some of the benefi ts that MDS can guarantee and which depend on each case study.
Temperature levels drive the choice of the materials used in hood construction:
• Aluminum nozzles for MG hoods up to 200°C (maximal permanent service temperature 300°C)
• Stainless steel for class “B” and class “S” tissue hoods (up to 450°C)
• Corten for class “H” extreme performance tissue hoods (up to 650°C)
