OPTIMIZATION OF NATURAL – TEHNICAL PARAMETERS FOR<br />

THE PILLAR METHOD OF COAL EXCAVATION<br />

Abstract<br />

This work is dedicated to a definition of the optimization methodology of optimization the basic<br />

natural- technical parameters for the pillar method of excavation the dark coal and lignite seams<br />

of larger thickness in complex natural – geological conditions. Mathematical modeling of pillar<br />

excavation parameters was done on the basis of discussed methodological approach.<br />

Key words: mine, excavation, coal<br />

1. INTRODUCTION<br />

The complex exploitation conditions of<br />

coal deposits in Serbia require systematical<br />

operation to the aim of improvement the<br />

method and technology of mining (mining<br />

system), particularly regarded to the<br />

parameters of production, productivity,<br />

safety and economy. Excavation is the main<br />

phase the coal mining that mainly affects the<br />

other phases of process subordinating them<br />

to its ultimate goal. Mining methods and<br />

technologies increasingly affect the way of<br />

deposit opening, while its preparing system<br />

depends entirely on the excavation method.<br />

The main direction of excavation system of<br />

underground coal mining is aimed to<br />

introduction and improvement the methods<br />

of longwall face using the complex<br />

machinery. However, in some deposits, the<br />

natural and geological conditions are such<br />

that they do not allow the use of given<br />

method, so it is necessary to seek the other<br />

specific solution of mining methods.<br />

* JP PEU Resavica<br />

The entire production of the mine with<br />

underground mining in Serbia is carried out<br />

in eight of eleven pit mines, with their<br />

general characteristics of low production,<br />

low level of mechanization and high<br />

proportion of hard physical labor in the total<br />

balance that give the adverse financial<br />

effects of business. Present natural -<br />

geological conditions have influenced the<br />

selection of mining technology solutions, so<br />

that today in all pits the pillar mining<br />

method are applied in different forms, where<br />

the working phases are de-mechanized and<br />

production effects are different, mainly due<br />

to the diversity of exploitation conditions. In<br />

order to improve the effects of use the pillar<br />

stopes in the coal mines in Serbia there is a<br />

need for their rationalization and<br />

optimization of technical - economic<br />

parameters, considering that this mining<br />

method will be a dominant in many mines.<br />
