Works on overburden excavation began<br />
in 1979, and the first quantity of ore<br />
were excavated in 1982.Today, production<br />
of copper concentrate from the ore of the<br />
open pit Veliki Krivelj makes about 75%<br />
of the total production of RBB, while the<br />
share of open pit ore is with about 90% of<br />
the excavated ore, with a trend of further<br />
increasing.<br />
The crushing plants, flotation and<br />
other auxiliary facilities were built in the<br />
near vicinity of open pit, necessary for<br />
exploitation and processing, and enrichment<br />
of ore by the flotation method. The<br />
resulting copper concentrate is transported<br />
and processed in the Smelter in Bor.<br />
Copper mine Veliki Krivelj since the<br />
beginning of ore exploitation uses the<br />
space, obtained by damming the Krivelj<br />
River valley, for disposal the flotation<br />
tailings.<br />
In order to realize the new extension of<br />
flotation tailing dump, it is necessary to<br />
previously build the new facilities for deviation<br />
the Krivelj River, located in the<br />
zone of flotation tailings. In this way, the<br />
space will be provided for permanent disposal<br />
of flotation tailings.<br />
2. CONCEPT OF DEVELOPMENT<br />
THE COPPER MINE<br />
VELIKI KRIVELJ<br />
Based on the verified reserves of copper<br />
ore, the adopted annual ore mining<br />
capacity of 10.6 million tons of copper<br />
and predicted copper price on the world<br />
metal market of 6 000 $ per ton of cathode,<br />
the final optimum contour of open pit<br />
was defined to k-100, within which the<br />
future exploitation will be developed until<br />
2050, Figures 1 and 2.<br />
Conceptual development of open pit in<br />
the future period of exploitation is committed<br />
on the basis of the following conditions:<br />
 maximum utilization of deposit,<br />
maintaining the continuity in the ore<br />
excavation, with corresponding<br />
quantities of overburden,<br />
possibility of mining the ore parties<br />
with different copper contents and<br />
making the certain suitable composite,<br />
creation the opportunities for smooth<br />
operation of several units of the applied<br />
basic equipment, and their<br />
work on different locations at the<br />
open pit,<br />
 providing the necessary security,<br />
both in the execution of mining<br />
works, and after excavation at the<br />
open pit.<br />
The basic exploitation parameters of<br />
the final optimum contour of the open pit<br />
