Testing of grain-size distribution from<br />the clay deposit Dušanovac near Negotin,<br />was done by two ways: studying the grainsize<br />distribution of each individual sample<br />[6,7] from all drfill holes and testing the<br />grain-size distribution of composite samples<br />[6,7]. Composite samples were<br />formed according to the class quality for<br />each individual drill hole. Characteristically,<br />the coarser classes (-0.212 +0.106<br />mm) account with about 1%. Most of<br />them is the class -0.020 +0.000 mm with a<br />participation of 61-75%.<br />For technological tests of clay [3] from<br />the deposit Dušanovac for the aim of<br />finding out a direction which should be<br />focused to further laboratory investigations<br />and testing, a short series of experiments<br />was carried out for separation the fine<br />fraction using the method of sedimentation<br />and decantation. Having in mind the<br />presence of clay minerals in very fine<br />fractions, less than 20 microns, it was<br />oursued in the experiments to find out the<br />opportunities for increasing a proportion<br />(mass participation) of the same or<br />increasing Al2O3 content, thereby obtaining<br />high quality natural clay, which as such can<br />found a wide use in all branches of<br />industry.<br />FINAL DISCUSSIONS ON CLAY USE<br />IN THE DEPOSIT DUŠANOVAC<br />Clays are mostly used [3] in the refractory<br />material industry, brick industry, porcelain<br />and stoneware, ceramics industry,<br />paper industry, chemical industry, pharmaceutical<br />industry, for rinding and rehabilitation<br />of degraded areas (land recultivation).<br />Based on the industrial application<br />of clay, the requirements for quality<br />are defined and they are related to the<br />mineral composition, content of Al2O3,<br />TiO2, and SiO2, content of impurities, pH<br />value, chemical stability, swelling, fire resistance,<br />coarse-grain particles, whiteness.<br />The clay deposit Dušanovac belongs to<br />the sedimentary deposits [1,2], formed of<br />decomposition material and leaching of<br />rocks, which was later transferred and redeposited.<br />In order to ensure the domestic<br />raw materials [5] (which is certainly the<br />most rational approach to supply the needs<br />of existing industrial facilities), the clay<br />from deposit Dušanovac was laboratory<br />tested. Depositis in the sediments of the<br />Lower Pliocene (Pontian), it has elongated<br />shape of the lens, in the north-east direction.<br />Along direction, it can be followed<br />more than 2.5 km, while its average width<br />is about 320 m. Exploratory works have<br />covered the northern and western part of<br />the deposit, an area of about 0.4 km 2 .<br />By geological exploration the deposit<br />Dušanovac, the clay is divided into four<br />types:<br />► brown clay (average thickness of<br />about 1.5 m);<br />► yellow clay (average thickness of<br />about 13.0 m);<br />► brown-gray clay (average thickness<br />of about 6.0 m). It represents a zone<br />of mixing the yellow and gray clay;<br />and<br />► gray clay (average thickness of<br />about 35.5 m).<br />Total reserves of clay in this deposit<br />amount 69,041,871 tons [3] (reserves of<br />A+B category).<br />The use of yellow clay [3] in recultivation<br />of the flotation tailing dump Veliki<br />Krivelj [8] (and other tailing dump, formed<br />by operation of RTB) would contribute to<br />the final solution of elimination the environmental<br />disaster of this tailing dump.<br />No 4,2011. 27<br />MINING ENGINEERING
