GEOTECHNICAL INVESTIGATIONS OF THE TERRAIN FOR<br />
PLANNING THE RIVER SAVA IN BRCKO<br />
Abstract<br />
In the central part of town Brcko, it is necessary to regulate the river Sava for particular purpose<br />
of the existing surface. Partially abandoned area is predicted for construction of two-way<br />
road and custom terminal by the new regulatory plan.<br />
Riverside of the river Sava is variable during a year regarding to the height of water level that<br />
changes several times. Disrepair of the river side and the lack of space required its regulation and<br />
therefore the conduct of specific researches for the needs of development the specific documentation<br />
Conducted researches have allowed a consideration of geological field formation, materials<br />
field, its morphological, engineering geological and hydrogeological characteristics, what was the<br />
base for project documentation development.<br />

INTRODUCTION<br />
Geotechnical and terrain investigations<br />
were carried out for the needs of planning<br />
the right bank of the river Sava in a part<br />
from the existing custom terminal to the<br />
port Brcko. The obtained data have<br />
showed the terrain characteristics along<br />
the river banks as well as on the south<br />
towards the residential area Srpska Varos<br />
and a part of terrain that presents the historical<br />
town centre.<br />

For the aim of better utili<strong>za</strong>tion the<br />
space in the given terrain part, the construction<br />
of two-way road, walkways, customs<br />
terminal and associated facilities was<br />
predicted. In addition to the investigation<br />
of geological formation of terrain and<br />
physic-mechanical characteristics of<br />
sediments, the state level of water in the<br />
river Sava during a year has an important<br />
role.<br />
