Electromagnetic Systems
- 58-
Electromagnetic Systems, where a gas is heated in an arc discharge to such a high
temperature, that it is converted to neutral plasma (plasma thruster).
The plasma is then expelled at high velocity by the interaction of the discharge current with
the magnetic field (Lorentz force). A typical application of this principle is the Magneto-
Plasma-Dynamic (MPD) type of thruster.
