The dropdown list shows the various log target types supported by the logging subsystem.<br />

● Cache: Writes log entries to system memory (this is how the default log is setup).<br />

● Console: Writes log entries to the screen when using Telnet, Secure Shell (SSH), or<br />

command line access through the serial port.<br />

● File: Writes log entries to a file on the appliance.<br />

● NFS: Writes log entries to a file on a remote Network File System (NFS) server.<br />

● SMTP: Forwards log entries as email to the configured remote SMTP servers and email<br />

addresses. Before sending, the contents of the log can be encrypted or signed.<br />

● SNMP: Forwards log entries as SNMP traps to configured recipients.<br />

● SOAP: Forwards log entries as SOAP messages.<br />

● syslog-ng: Forwards log entries using Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) to a remote<br />

syslog daemon.<br />

● syslog: Forwards log entries using User Datagram Protocol (UDP) to a remote syslog<br />

daemon.<br />

1.13.3 Log Categories<br />

Log targets filter captured messages by event category. The use of categories allows log targets to<br />

subscribe to specific messages, such as appliance messages, network messages, or particular service<br />

messages. In addition to the predefined log categories specific to WebSphere DataPower objects and<br />

operations, you can create your own custom log categories which are more specific to your applications.<br />

__1. Back in the Administration section of the navigation tree, locate and click on the Configure Log<br />

Categories link.<br />

A list of all predefined log categories will be displayed.<br />
