The following hotel and personal safety tips have been compiled to
make your stay more pleasant. Help make your visit trouble free by
using this information:
Personal Safety
• Stick to well populated, well-lighted areas and walk with
other people.
• Women, hold your purse next to your body, or do not
carry a purse at all.
• If someone should grab your purse, let go. It is not worth
risking your safety.
• Men, keep your wallet in your front pocket or buttoned
hip pocket.
• Always lock your car.
• Ask directions at the hotel before visiting an unfamiliar area
of the city and ask whether it would be best to walk, take
a bus, or taxi.
• Do not wear your conference name badge while outside
of the hotel!

BriteSpot: A New Robotic System for Processing Microarrays in an
Ozone-Safe Environment
The BriteSpot Microarray Workstation uses process control and robotics
to reduce the human, physical, and environmental variables that negatively
effect microarray data. The workstation is composed of three modules
that work together to reliably perform incubation, washing and drying of
microarrays in an ozone-safe environment. Features of this unique system
will be presented at this workshop along with results of various system
benchmark and process optimization studies.

Hotel Safety
• Always locate nearby fire exits upon checking into your room
or entering a facility such as the convention center.
• Be aware of others when entering your room.
• Close the door securely whenever you are in your room and
use all of the locking devices provided.
• Check to see that sliding glass doors or windows and any
connecting room doors are locked.
• Don’t answer your hotel door without verifying who it is. If a
person claims to be a hotel employee, call the front desk and
ask if someone from the staff is supposed to have access to
your room and for what purpose.
• Be discrete in giving your room numbers when billing charges
to your room.
• Place all valuables in the hotel safety deposit box.
• When returning to the hotel at night, use the main entrance
of the hotel. Be observant and look around before entering
parking lots.
• If you see any suspicious activity, please report your
observations to management.

With the MVS 2.0, laboratories can now verify the performance of
multichannel liquid handlers with up to 384 pipette tips. Using photometric
calibration for enhanced accuracy and precision, the MVS 2.0 provides
an internationally approved method for ensuring data integrity at the low
volumes characteristic of 384-well plates. The MVS 2.0 will also allow
users to test with reagents of various viscosities so that calibration
procedures are identical to actual assay conditions.

Cerionix, Inc., a technology company dedicated to the development
of state-of-the-art products for laboratory research applications, will
announce results from multiple research studies on its TipCharger
System. Working with world-renowned facilities, Cerionix will detail how
its TipCharger System, using low temperature, atmospheric plasma to
sterilize pipette tips and pin tools, has proven to remove and destroy
organic and genetic substances, such as DNA and the E. Coli bacteria.
