CANopen-Based Device Profiles for Laboratory Automation
Over the years, the need for laboratory automation equipment to interact with each other has increased. Manufacturers use a variety of
proprietary ways to do this. In other industries, standard communication networks and network interfaces have been created to allow
easier integration in applications. With this in mind, a group formed under the international organization, CAN in Automation, to create
standardized interfaces for laboratory sub-devices such as dilutors, etc. This paper will describe the specification, CiA WDP 424, and
its benefits to manufacturers and end users. Also it will describe how it defines the parameters and communication objects of various
laboratory devices. The experts are not interested in the standardization of a laboratory automation network, but have left that for future
discussion.
