The Litigation Committee focuses on the legal, practical and<br />

procedural issues involved in conducting litigation. Differences and<br />

developments in individual jurisdictions are compared. The issues<br />

arising in international litigation receive particular attention, including<br />

issues such as jurisdiction, choice of law and the role of international<br />

judicial assistance in dispute resolution.<br />

Section (SEERIL)<br />

The Section on Energy, Environment, Natural Resources and<br />

Infrastructure Law (SEERIL) has a membership of over 2,300 lawyers in<br />

private practice, oil and mining companies, international organisations,<br />

government and academia. The section coordinates the activities of six<br />

committees that aim to advance the development and understanding<br />

of the law affecting oil and gas, mining, power, water, international<br />

construction projects and environment, health and safety law.<br />

Environment, Health and Safety Law 36<br />

The objective of the committee is to promote knowledge and<br />

awareness in all areas of environmental, health and safety law and<br />

This committee is for lawyers interested in construction law and in<br />

exchanging experiences from construction projects around the world.<br />

All aspects and types of construction and engineering projects are<br />

dealt with, from traditional building and civil engineering contracts to<br />

state-of-the art project finance infrastructure projects.<br />

The objective of the Mining Law Committee is to promote an<br />

interchange of information and views and to advance knowledge<br />

among individual members of the section and others as to laws,<br />

practices and procedures affecting all activities concerning minerals<br />

and mining throughout the world.<br />

Oil and Gas Law 37<br />

The Oil and Gas Law Committee focuses on issues such as:<br />

exploration and production for all forms of hydrocarbons; onshore<br />

and offshore oil and gas; joint operating agreements and other usual<br />

contracts used by the industry; financing and insurance; comparative<br />

tax regimes; state participation and national oil companies; natural<br />

gas transportation and distribution; LNG chain; and hydrocarbons<br />

regulatory bodies and agencies.<br />

Power Law 37<br />

The mission of the Power Law Committee is to provide a forum where<br />

energy lawyers with different legal backgrounds from around the<br />

world can interact and learn from one another in a setting encouraging<br />

collegiality and the friendly exchange of ideas. The committee<br />

explores various topics to provide its membership with practical and<br />

useful advice to better serve clients, and to offer the opportunity for<br />

collaboration, networking and friendships among its members.<br />

Water Law 37<br />

The Water Law Committee looks at the following issues: quantity and<br />

quality rights in international rivers; national water allocation systems;<br />

national water quality protection systems; water resource related<br />

aspects of natural resource development; hydroelectric development;<br />

water transfers; alternate dispute resolution mechanisms; and<br />

institutional issues in water resources development and distribution.<br />
