Bring authentic Sichuan cuisine to The Regency!
China’s culinary masters
As part of the relentless quest
for gastronomic excellence
The Regency Hotel is proud to
present a culinary premiËre at its elegant
Silk Road restaurant which will
bring three Master Chefs from
Beijing to Kuwait for just four days
from 27th to 30th September.
‘China’s Culinary Masters’ is an
event which coincides with China’s
annual National Day celebrations
held on October 1st. Master Chefs
Peng Zifu, Liu Xuefeng and Wang
Zaozhu will be coming to Kuwait for
the first time. These men are the culinary
Èlite of China having recreated
classic Chinese specialties for royalty,
Heads of State and world leaders
from around the world.
Amongst those who have tasted
their dishes include President of
Russia, Vladimir Putin; the President
of South Africa, Jacob G. Zuma;
France’s ex-President Jacques Chirac;
ex-US President George Bush (Snr)
and of course an endless list of
celebrities and dignitaries from
China.
In this, their first trip to Kuwait,
W ith
they will work with Executive Chef
Austen Reid, and Executive Sous
Chef, Anuraj Nair to demonstrate a
range of famously spicy Sichuan
dishes from China’s southwest such
as the tongue-tingling gong pao
chicken as well as non-spicy Chinese
classics including dim sum.
Sometimes referred to by its old
name of Szechuan, the region’s cuisine
typically offers pungent and
spicy flavours, accompanied by
piquant aromas of garlic, chili and
the unique homegrown condiment,
Sichuan pepper. Culinary buffs will of
course know that peanuts, sesame
paste and ginger are also prominent
ingredients in Sichuan cooking.
There are many local variations but
the style of cooking in the city of
Chengdu was deemed so sophisticated
that in 2011 UNESCO declared
it a City of Gastronomy.
For those people who have never
tasted authentic Chinese food, this
experience will be like none other as
the chefs will also take this rare
opportunity to show diners the art of
noodle making - taking a small piece
of dough and ‘throwing’ it into their
air in an aerial acrobatic show!
Within minutes, the dough transforms
into fine threads of spaghettilike
consistency.
Chef Austen stated “It is a real
honour to have these accomplished
chefs at The Regency to showcase
what is possibly one of the greatest
cuisines in the world! I am not sure if
many people have had the pleasure
of watching how noodles are traditionally
made; the way the chef
‘throws’ them in the air is quite
amazing!”

NAFO celebrates Onam
its full spirit and fervor,
NAFO Kuwait (National
Forum Kuwait) celebrated
Onam 2012, on Friday, September
21, 2012, at the Indian Community
School Auditorium (Senior), Salmiya.
As usual, immediately after the
National anthems of both Kuwait and
India, Anamika Anilkumar offered
prayer. The traditional lamp
“Bhadradeepam” was then lighted by
the female members of NAFO family.
Early in the morning, the floor was
well decorated with
“Athappookkalam” by Pradeep
Kumar, Anjana, Sreejayan, Sreelatha,
Madhu Menon and
Sajitha.
Cultural Secretary KC
Gopakumar welcomed
the audience. Chief
guest, Deputy Chief of
Mission and Charge
D’Affaires of the Indian
Embassy Vidhu P Nair,
officially inaugurated
the function chaired by
President BS Pillai.
While extending Onam
wishes, Vidhu P Nair
congratulated NAFO for
its enthusiastic social,
welfare and cultural
services and wished all
success for its future activities. NAFO
Patron Vijayan Karayil and Advisory
Board Member KG Nair felicitated the
occasion. On behalf of NAFO, Vidhu P
Nair was then honored with a
memento by President, in appreciation
of his exemplary services to the
Indian diaspora in Kuwait.

The new issue of NAFO newsletter
“Sadgama” was also released on the
Onam day by TA Remesh, Country
Head, Gulfmart and Geant Easy
supermarkets, by giving a copy to
Chief Guest Vidhu P Nair, in the presence
of Sadgama editor Rajkartha.

A galaxy of eminent personalities
including Dr CG Suresh, Dr Narayan
Nampoori, RC Suresh, Dr Binumon,
Rajesh Nair, Pancily Varkey, MA Hilal,

Valiyakkath, Prasad Padmanabhan,
Praful, and Jose Thomas, graced the
occasion with their benevolent presence.
During the day, NAFO family
staged a variety of cultural programs,
bringing back the nostalgic feelings
of a bygone era of prosperity, equality
and righteousness under the golden
reign of King Mahabali.
The skit “Onasilpam” envisaged
and presented by R Subbaraman,
Murali Nair, Anitha Murali, and their
team, depicting the good old days of
Onam and the appearance of
“ONATHAR”, a rarely seen event in
pravasi onams, were eye-catching by
their uniqueness.

day.
The other highlighting event was
the spell-binding “Thiruvathirakkali,
meticulously performed by the lady
members Chandrika Prasad, Divya
Girish, Joshiba Sajiv, Mini Satish,
Preethi Padmanabhan, Prathiba
Menon, Smitha Shashikumar, Smruthi
Vinayan, Sindhu Rajiv, Reshma
Harikrishnan, Sunitha Pramod, and Dr
Anitha Unnikrishnan under the choreography
of NAFO member
kalmandalam Priyam Anand
and co-ordinationship of
Smitha Shashikumar.
The Fusion of Arabic and
Punjabi Bhanghra dances
staged by Pradeepkumar,
Madhu Menon, Rajagopal,
Srijayan, Ramadas, Premraj,
Sarath Pillai, and Ramesh
was also an attractive cultural
feast on the happy occasion.
Other songs/dances by
NAFO family members -
both adults and kids were
added attractions.
The musical extravaganza
rendered by Navaneeth
Varma took the audience to the
ecstatic heights of joy which gave this
year’s Onam program much more
colorful reminiscences.

and P Sreekumar co-ordinated the
event in a most efficient and professional
manner. Anjana Remesh and
Vishnu Dutthan supported by

In between the festivities, sumptuous
feast the traditional Onasadya
was served to all attendees and over
all, it was an enjoyable and ever
memorable celebration.
Kuwait Cricket
to organize open
tourney for schools
K uwait
Cricket, the apex body of cricket in Kuwait
would like to invite school cricket teams to participate
in their tournaments which are planned
to be to be held at the turf ground at Sulaibiya. Kuwait
Cricket intends to conduct two cricket tournaments for
U-15 and U-18 school children who should have valid
Kuwait residence and be a student of their respective
school. The tournaments will be played on Saturdays
at Sulaibiya grounds and the matches will be 30 overs.
Kuwait Cricket’s principal aim is to provide quality
cricket to the young school cricketers in Kuwait and
guide them to face international exposure which will
nurture and develop their sporting skills. Moreover,
Kuwait Cricket also aims to make use of sports to
strengthen friendship and to bridge the gap between
cultures and communities. Kuwait U-16 & U-19 teams
have made various successful international tours to
countries like Singapore, Malaysia, UAE, Nepal and
Pakistan. Participation of school cricket teams will
undoubtedly play a pivotal role in ensuring the success
of the open cricket tournament and we look forward
to your confirmation of attendance. A meeting of
school representatives will be arranged shortly.

Calling all Ten-pin Bowlers
The Indian Bowling League (IBL) Season 3 will be held at Cozmo
Entertainment, Salmiya commencing on Friday the 28th of
September at 3 pm. Kindly reserve your team in advance to
avoid disappointment, on a first come first serve.
‘Leniency of Islam’
An unprecedented initiative of KTV2 (English channel) is the
new program by the name ‘Leniency of Islam’ presented by
Shaikh Musaad Alsane and directed by Hamid Al-Turkait. The
program is mainly meant to address the expatriates living in Kuwait.
Religious questions are received through the program email qislam@tv.gov.kw
and sms can be sent to- 97822021 and answered by
the lecturer and Imam in Awqaf Ministry Shaikh Musaad Alsane - a
Master Degree holder in Sharia and fiqih from Kuwait University. So
don’t forget to watch the program every Friday at 1:00 pm.
Focus Kuwait 6th annual day
As a part of the 6th anniversary celebrations, Forum of Cadd
Users (FOCUS Kuwait), a non-political, non-religious organization
is set to stage a mega cultural event “Focus Fest-2012”.
This mega event will be a blend of traditional and contemporary
dance and musical extravaganza by renowned South Indian playback
singers Jyotsna and Sudeesh. Scheduled for the afternoon of
Friday, October 12, 2012, at the Al-Jeel Al-Jadeed School
Auditorium, Hawally, the mega musical show, is expected to be a
super-hit in Kuwait.

For the first time Indian Cultural Society brings you live excitement
of ZEE - International Antakshari in Kuwait. Audition &
first round will be held in Kuwait, there after followed by semi
finals in India & Grand Finale in Dubai. Complete team of Carnival
films & Zee TV will be in Kuwait for the final round of selection on
Friday 5th October with Jaaved Jaaferi: Celebrity Judge, Akriti

Tulukoota Kuwait ‘Merit Scholarship’
Applications are now being invited for “Tulukoota Kuwait Merit
Cum Means Scholarship” to be awarded during Tuluparba
2012 scheduled to be held on October 11 and 12, 2012. The
objective of this scholarship is to provide financial assistance and
support to deserving meritorious students, to enable them to pursue
their higher studies. Applications are accepted from minimum
one year valid Tulukoota Kuwait member’s children studying either
in the State of Kuwait or in India and scoring high grades in Xth and
XIIth standard Board Examination held for Academic year 2011-
2012.
