Higher Ruggin is a small hamlet situated to the south
west of Taunton and about two miles from the village of
West Buckland which has a primary school and shop.
There is good access to the M5 motorway with junctions
at Wellington and Taunton and the latter provides a
comprehensive range of facilities.
Farmwood is tucked away on the slopes of the
Blackdown Hills at the end of a long private track and
enjoys complete seclusion, with no near neighbours. It
enjoys a stunning setting, with woodland and a nature
Wellington 4 miles, Taunton 5 miles, M5 (J26) 2 miles,
Mainline Railway Station at Taunton
reserve behind it and open distant views to the Quantock
Hills. The land is an interesting mixture of landscaped
garden, woodland, a large wildlife pond and grazing.
The driveway sweeps into an extensive parking area
with adjoining beds heavily stocked with shrubs. There
is terracing at the front and at the rear where it adjoins
the main area of landscaped garden with well stocked
beds, gravel paths and natural stone walling. Two small
streams run through the gardens and there is a stone
store shed. The main area of woodland is a most
attractive amenity with mature oak and ash trees and
some hazel coppice. It is covered with bluebells in the
spring and on the edge is a large wildlife pond. The
pasture provides some useful grazing and there is a
further area of hazel coppice.
The front elevation of Farmwood is most attractive. It is
partly rendered and partly stone faced and has three
gables with a covered timber verandah at one end which
is approached from the drawing room and takes full
advantage of the lovely views.

Farmwood was originally a small bungalow which has been
considerably improved and extended in recent years. It has been
cleverly designed to provide extensive modernised accommodation
where the principal rooms, the dining hall, drawing room,
kitchen/breakfast room and master bedroom are all exceptionally well
proportioned. There are many windows and pairs of glazed doors
which create a very light property.
The drawing room opens out onto the verandah and has an open fire.
The kitchen/breakfast room enjoys views across the garden over an
adjoining field and towards the woodland. It is very well fitted with
granite worktops, a central island unit and a four oven oil-fired Aga
cooker. The principal bedroom suite has an exceptionally large
bedroom with a deep window bay recess, double doors leading out to
the terrace and a spacious, stylishly fitted en-suite bathroom. All the
bedrooms have ranges of built-in wardrobes. The reception rooms
have recessed ceiling lights and there is an oil-fired central heating
system. Double glazing is installed and the internal and external fully
glazed doors are timber framed.
