ANNUAL2012 REPORT

WELCOME
Welcome to Enviu’s
Annual Report for
2012! A whole year has
passed again, and it
certainly was not a dull
year. There have been
many changes in the
organization, hurdles to
overcome, new partners,
big ideas turning into
realization and lots of fun
events. We would like to
share our highlights of
the year with you.
Enjoy!
Stef’s Welcome Video
Message!
WE START WORLD CHANGING
COMPANIES
Enviu consists of driven people with
a shared passion and mission in life:
make the world a little bit better. We
are not afraid to go where no one
has gone before. With unstoppable
energy and the WOW feeling we move
mountains. We believe in an economy
that is focused on creating quality
of life for everyone, restoring our
ecosystems, with equal opportunities
for all. An economy that functions on
a basis of trust. We are not there yet!
We generate ideas for major social
and environmental issues and bring
them to the market. The profitable
companies and communities that we
build have a positive impact on the
environment and society.
It is flying and falling. And getting back
on your feet again. Having confidence
in each other and in the future. Going
on an adventure, not knowing what
you’ll encounter, and liking the journey
as much as the goal.
This is the economy of the crowd. We
invite you to be part of it!

COMMUNITY
The Enviu community =
You. It is what makes us
unique in this world.
You are part of this community. You support
our organisation and our mission in different
ways. You make the change. Like reading
our newsletter, following us on twitter,
volunteering for us, investing in us and
partnering with us. Together we make it all
happen!

COMMUNITY
The Enviu community is
growing every year.
The community is a bunch of highly
educated, inspired people with diverse
expertise and motivation. With a shared set
of life values that binds us all. All members
are go-getters, have young minds, think out
of the box, are entrepreneurial, want to have
a positive impact on the world and like to
work together to make that happen.
“I am passionate about sustainability,
about entrepreneurship and I truly
believe that a company can make a
social environmental impact and can
make a lot of money at the same time.
I really like Enviu’s community, the
organization, and I think Enviu is very
dynamic and that’s why I want to be a
part of it!”
- Juan Rodriquez (Costa Rica)
“What motivates me to be part of
Enviu’s community is that I believe that
Enviu projects are a good sense of what
a post-capitalist world would look like.
A community of young, entrepreneurial
people that are concerned about social
and environmental issues”
SUSTAINABLE DANCE CLUB
How can we live a more
sustainable and fulfilling
lifestyle while changing
the future of clubbing and
partying?
Sustainable Dance Club (SDC)
believes that consciousness about
energy and the impact humans have
on it, are the main conditions for a
sustainable world.
By combining sustainable technology
with interactivity and fun, SDC creates
inspiring flooring installations and
spreads worldwide awareness to
adopt a more sustainable lifestyle.
IMPACT 2012
• 17 permanent Sustainable Dance
Floor installations
• Events in 69 different cities in 18
countries on 5 continents
This resulted in approximately
950.000 visitors who generated 2
billion Joules of energy. You can
charge around 200.000 smart phones
with this electricity.
HIGHLIGHTS 2012
• SDF Installations for EDF during the
Olympics and Paralympics. EDF is
an Olympic sustainable sponsor.
• A club tour for Radio “Los 40
Principales” in 30 clubs in 30 cities
in Spain. “Los 40 Principales” is the
biggest radio station in Spain.
NEXT STEPS
Sustainable Dance Club will change
its name and become Energy Floors.
This is the first step in entering
new target markets such as public
transport, architecture, exhibitions,
education, etc with the new product:
The Sustainable Energy Floor, an
energy generating floor for public
spaces.

THREE WHEELS UNITED
How can we help 1 million
auto-rickshaw drivers with
an income of 3 dollars
per day to increase their
income and social status
and at the same time
decrease the pollution
they cause?
The objective is to change the system
with a three pillar solution:
• The drivers receive a loan that
allows them to purchase a clean
vehicle. Currently the drivers rent an
old vehicle on a weekly basis. The
interest of the loan is lower than the
rental costs.
• As the new vehicle is a clean one,
their expenses on fuel decrease
and so does the pollution they
cause.
• We provide extra revenues for the
drivers through advertisement and
additional services
IMPACT 2012
120 auto rickshaws on the road. The
income of the drivers will increase
with 70-400% because of the TWU
activities.
HIGHLIGHTS 2012
We entered into agreements with
the relevant partners: banks for the
loans and savings accounts for the
rickshaw drivers and corporate clients
for advertisements. We realized an
investment of ± € 500,000. The initial
results are very promising: 0% defaults
and a substantial increase of income.
NEXT STEPS
Scale! We have been successful in
setting up a pilot. Next year we want to
increase the number of auto rickshaws
on the road to 750 - 1,000.

YUNO FOODS
Can we make it easier
and more fun for kids
to choose a healthier
lifestyle by eating healthy
snacks that taste good?
With the YUNO brand Yummm!
Concepts produces candy and
snacks that are 100% natural, made
from fruit & vegetables and contain
no added sugars, significantly less fat,
salt and calories.
IIMPACT 2012
• Number of sales outlets that carry
YUNO product has risen from 300+
to 800+ in 2012 including all the
major supermarkets in the NL
• YUNO sold a total of 241.528 healthy
snacks in 2012
• We’ve raised 35.000 euros in
crowdfunding through 168 investors
to co-create a new YUNO product
in 2013
HIGHLIGHTS 2012
• We’ve managed to have our first
‘peek’ outside of the Dutch borders
by presenting YUNO on the world’s
biggest ‘snacking’ trade fair in
Germany where the YUNO product
was presented as a ‘New Product
Showcase’
• Organised a competition to win
‘The coolest birthday party ever’
and promoted this competition on
national television (Nickelodeon)
• YUNO was mentioned in over 60 PR
publications and articles in 2012
• 20.000 goodiebags were sampled
during the official ‘Intocht van
Sinterklaas’ in Roermond
NEXT STEPS
2013 will be yet another important
year for Yummm! Concepts. 2012 was
the year that we’ve managed to get
the YUNO brand into the national
supermarkets and 2013 will be the
year where we will have to prove
that the formula works. Moreover
we will co-create a range of new
all natural fruit and veggie snacks
that can hopefully be added to the
supermarket shelves by the end of
2013.

INURBA
Over a billion people live
in slums worldwide, and
the numbers are growing.
A lot of these people have
a job and income but
no access to affordable
housing and mortgages.
INURBA is our latest startup! Based
on the learnings of OS-house, which
was merely focused on the house
and its design, we developed an
all-inclusive concept for building
sustainable communities. We believe
this approach and building on scale
can provide for affordable housing.
INURBA delivers affordable and
sustainable housing in the form
of healthy communities to the
emerging middle class. The houses
are provided with infrastructure that
includes clean water, sanitation
facilities, and power.
HIGHLIGHTS 2012
In 2012 we started a partnership
with an entrepreneur who has a long
history in social project development.
As business partners we have
developed the Inurba business case.
In Nicaragua a project of 255 houses
has been prepared, the partners like
banks, a sustainable manufacturer
and land owners are onboard. Also in
Nigeria and Ghana projects are being
prepared. To finance the construction
we have established a revolving
construction fund of 3 million euro,
through which we can pre-finance all
the projects.
NEXT STEPS
2013 will be an exciting year for
INURBA as we will be constructing
the first community of houses in
Nicaragua! Our first project starts in
the beginning of 2013 in Nicaragua,
followed closely by a project planned
for Ghana and Nigeria.

IMPACTCROWD
Connecting online crowd
investors with promising
startups combining
potential financial, social
and environmental return
on investment (ROI).
A number of inspiring startups don’t
have access to sufficient funding.
ImpactCrowd believes that investing
in startups should be about creating
impact.
2012
• Teamed up with Symbid
• Started a pilot with 4 startups online
that we aim to get funded early
2013
• Teamed up with two entrepreneurs
who will develop ImpactCrowd into
an international business venture.
NEXT STEPS
Based on the things we learned in
the pilot we will create our own crowd
investing platform for North West
European startups and investors.
Our goal is to be the #1 European
platform, the solution for impact
investing for the crowd. We want to
bring crowd investing to the next
level.

IN THE PIPELINE
We haven’t been sitting still.
Let’s take a peek into the
projects that we have been
working on in 2012. Some of
them will be the startups of
2013.
The HELP! app is a free smartphone
application to call for help in case
of an emergency. Just push the
button and call 112 while people in
the vicinity receive an alert on their
mobile to come and help. In 2012 we
found a long-term partner in “Het
Oranje Kruis”, the Dutch authority in
the field of First Aid for the HELP! app.
Soon we will release a video in which
a user explains a real life case on
how the app was extremely useful! In
2013 we aim to increase the number
of downloads of the app, so that more
people can start helping each other
in case of emergency.
Many people in Ghana are not
prepared for their retirement. Because
they work in the informal sector, they
do not save for their pensions. By
developing a micro pension fund in
Ghana, Enviu wants to help people
to save money for their retirement.
Small and flexible payments by cell
phone will make it possible to save
for a basic income after retirement.
Working together with a local micro
insurer (MicroEnsure) and several
distributors (Sinapi Abu Trust,
Opportunity International Ghana) we
will make sure our micro pension
product meets local needs.
Next step: once funding is secured
the first product tests can start in
Ghana. When successful, we want
to bring this project to the market in
other countries as well!

IN THE PIPELINE
Enviu has taken on the challenge
to improve the ‘Cold Chain’ in India.
In emerging countries around the
world, a great number of problems
are linked to the lack of available and
affordable refrigeration.
We work on a concept that will help
Indian farmers store and transport
harvests in a sustainable and more
profitable way. By improving the ‘Cold
Chain’ farmers and traders don’t need
to “race against the clock” to sell
their harvests before spoilage. They
can take their products to areas with
higher demand.
Next step: we are organising a pilot
project in India together with our
local partner Onergy.
Many artisans in emerging economies
do not have direct access to
international buyer markets. Selling
their unique products requires
many intermediaries, often leaving
them with less than 10% of the price
products are sold for.
Enviu’s aim is to create an online
global community and marketplace
to empower artisans in emerging
economies to create & sell unique
products and grow their own
business. We will enable artisans to
use simple SMS or mobile Internet
access to create personal online
stores and upload products. We hope
to increase the income of the artisans
up to 20 times, and create a positive
impact on their families and the
communities they live in.
Next step: pitch to get the first
funding for the pilot.
In 2011 the money transferred to
developing countries is estimated
at an amount over $351 billion. The
majority of this money flows to
transferring agencies who charge
very high transfer rates. When the
money that is left arrives at their
family, the diaspora don’t have any
influence on how the money is spent.
Ensure Your Family aims to help
the diaspora around the world with
buying financial products for their
family in their home country. We
facilitate them with an online platform
where they can buy financial products
like health insurance or save for
house construction . We will work
together with local insurers and banks
to make sure we provide people with
suitable financial products.
Next step: we are looking for an
entrepreneur with whom we can
partner! Together we need to get
funding to develop the venture
further.
The Power Generation. As energy
prices rise and climate change
becomes more apparent, so does the
need for consumers to start living a
more sustainable lifestyle.
We believe it´s fun to work together
towards smarter energy use. We
connect individuals with suppliers
of smart energy solutions. Within
seven years we want at least 500,000
people in the Netherlands to lower
their energy consumption and
generate their own energy. By doing
this, we want to help households
reduce their carbon footprint by a
third.
Next step: looking for partners
to develop the first product, an
employment benefit program.

ACHIEVEMENTS
Enviu was the first in the
world to crowd fund
€ 100.000 in equity for
Enviu Participations.
AND WE HAVE MORE TO BE
PROUD OF
• 70.000 downloads for the HELP! app
• Launch of ImpactCrowd with four
entrepreneurs to crowdfund their
impact-driven ventures.
• New partnerships for our community
with Unreasonable Institute, EFactor,
Masterpeace, Young Ernst&Young.
• DOEN Foundation will be our partner
again for Enviu Foundation in 2013 &
2014!
• We started a joint venture with
Kirkman Company.
• 5 informal investors attracted for
Enviu Participations.
• Doubled the turnover of Enviu BV
• Started a partnership with 3 new
entrepreneurs.

Enviu has been radically reinventing the process from
ideation to social enterprise creation. Enviu’s team
has accomplished this by cultivating and supporting
a global expert crowd, whose collective wisdom outshines
the conventional model of experts and high
paid consultants.
Charly Kleissner, former Next, impact-investor and co-founder
of Toniic (San Francisco, USA)
While most people are just hearing the terms crowdsourcing
and social impact companies, Stef and Enviu
have years of experience doing it. As someone with
experience in collaborative projects and software, I
have a great appreciation for Enviu’s leaderships and
process and results.
Peter Sullivan, Clear Light Ventures (San Francisco, USA)

SERVICES
Based on our years of experience we
support organisations with: strategic
advice, open innovation and community
building. In 2012 we also partnered
with Kirkman Company to start offering
corporate venturing services. This
corporate venturing process will provide
companies with a lean and mean
structure for creating radical innovations
outside of their organisation. We will
involve a large community (stakeholders)
in setting up the venture and making a
positive impact on the world.
OPEN HEALTH COMMUNITY
Enviu is getting into health! Supported
by Achmea Health Division, we are
developing a community of health
entrepreneurs, innovators, students
and professionals to co-create health
care solutions to improve the quality
and accessibility of health care all
over the world. We start with scouting
for world-wide best-practices of
healthcare business models. Be one
of the first to join this brand new
community.
OPEN SOURCE OFFICE
In the Netherlands there is an
increasing number of offices that
remain empty. Partly due to the
incompatibility of the needs of tenants
and the inflexibility of buildings. We
teamed up with Brakel Interieur Groep
to create a challenge for people to cocreate
designs for a sustainable and
flexible office. The winning team got a
contract worth of at least € 50,000 for
the construction of the new office of
Brakel Interieur Groep.
TOXIC METAL CHALLENGE
Did you know that you can get mercury
poisoning from eating too much sushi?
We started the Toxic Metal Challenge
together with Clear Light Ventures to
develop a cost effective, non-invasive
screening tool to test the methyl
mercury levels in a person’s body. We
aim to crowdsource the best business
CLEAN MARINE CHALLENGE
Plastic waste in oceans is a growing
threat to a healthy marine life. Not
only because animals die due to
entanglement and suffocation, but also
because plastic micro beads end up
in the human food chain. With a large
offshore company we looked at the
current efforts of entrepreneurs and
stakeholders to solve the problem.
Based on that, we defined some
missing links and potential scenarios
to realize feasible business solutions to
detect, clean and manufacture plastics
from oceans.
GROEN ZAKEN DOEN
With two months and seven topics
to cover, Enviu crowdsourced more
than 70 cases on new ways of doing
business with real value. They will be
published in the next book on doing
business in the new economy written
by Marga Hoek, director of De Groene
Zaak, to be distributed in Spring 2013.

LESSONS LEARNED
Fail early. Fail fast. Fail
often. We believe it is
important that we can
make mistakes.
We are pioneering, so we have to take risks
and just go for it. And along the way we learn.
We’d like to share a few of the lessons we
learned in 2012.
FUNDING
The funding market is changing
rapidly, subsidies and grants are being
abolished and family offices tend to
turn more to social impact investment
instead of pre-seed funding. We saw
this coming, but the market change
occurred faster than expected. We
had to change our funding strategy in
a short amount of time, looking more
at institutional funding.
WOW! PROCESS
The WOW! process through which
we develop our start-ups has been
changed drastically over 2012.
We learned that managing game
changing innovations couldn’t be
done by setting hard deliverables and
milestones on feasibility studies and
business models. Instead we learned
to approach the process in a lean way.
Testing assumptions, learning from
that and changing direction if needed,
makes us able to be more effective.
We bring a start-up to market with
fewer resources, energy and a shorter
time to market.
OPEN SOURCE HOUSE
Developing new ventures is equal
to learning. So within all the WOW!
projects we have a lot of lessons. We
like to share two valuable lessons
about the pilot house for Open Source
House. Be conscious of the local
cultural preferences and thoroughly
test them before you start building.
Have full control of the construction of
the house. For OS-House the building
time and budget were exceeded. This
is one of the reasons why we decided
to start using pre-fab housing for
Inurba, in order to have more control
over time, budget and quality.
