through play.

President’s Message
We missed the January update as we currently do a combined-months Dec/Jan issue. We
are well into winter now. December brought its own set of challenges. It ended up with a
signifi cant amount of snow. We were able to produce a enough ice for the local rink to get
us through the December school break. I had some help with the rink from Greg and Mike
in December. Th anks guys.
Th e digital sign is up and running. It is saving us a signifi cant amount of time trying to
keep up with changing the sign as well as not having letters blowing off .
Th e New Years Eve party was a success. Th e Rundle Summit Pub is up and running
with cribbage on Tuesday, wing night on Wednesday and Euchre on Th ursday. Check out the
dates for Karaoke. Th ere are also meal specials every night. Families are welcome.
We have had some painting done to the hall as well as completing some major cleaning
during the December break.
We are in the process of getting the back area reworked to allow for proper drainage. Th ey
will being installing catch basins in the back area and re-grading the back area, which will
impact Bronco’s football in 2013 as they access their practice fi eld.
Rundle Community Association will be running a Preschool program this fall instead
of a playschool program. Th ere will be a greater emphasis on speaking skills to help prepare
the youth for formal schools.
Reminder that if we have ice, there will be a free skate on Family Day.
We have applied to AGLC to get an exemption to hold our Poker Night on Saturdays.
Th ey have responded that what we are doing is not within the defi nition of gambling as no
money changes hands. As such, we are allowed to hold this event again.

Rundle LRT Station
Redevelopment
RUNDLE COMMUNITY NEWS
The City of Calgary is upgrading all existing Calgary Transit LRT
station platforms to accommodate four-car trains. Four-car train
service will be introduced in the near future. The platforms in the
northeast from Bridgeland to Rundle Station are the next on the list
for upgrades, starting with Rundle Station. These stations are showing
considerable wear and deterioration and are in need of refurbishment.
So, at the same time they are being extended for four-car trains, the
existing platforms will also be replaced.
In addition to replacing and extending the platform, station
furnishings, such as the shelters, signage, lighting and benches, will
also be refurbished or replaced with upgraded furnishings.
The project will be undertaken in phases from 2013-2014 –
Rundle, Marlborough and Franklin Stations will be redeveloped in
2013; Barlow/Max Bell, Zoo, and Bridgeland/Memorial Stations will
be done in 2014. At each station, construction crews will remove
the existing station furnishings and emergency exit ramps. They
will extend the foundations for the platform, while minimizing
disruptions to revenue service and station accessibility.
It is expected that the station will be closed over a long weekend
time frame to accommodate the entire platform removal and
replacement. Shuttle buses will operate between the closed station
and other adjacent train stations in order to maintain access for
transit customers and surrounding businesses.
Rundle Station re-construction started in January
Rundle Station is the first station to undergo redevelopment in
the northeast. Starting in January 2013, the Contractor will begin
construction while the station will remain open.
Currently, the Contractor is tentatively planning to close the
station over the May long weekend to remove and replace the existing
platform. During the time the station is closed, Calgary Transit will
operate shuttle buses between Rundle and the two adjoining stations,
Whitehorn and Marlborough.
The Rundle Station platform redevelopment is expected to be
complete by fall 2013.

RV Parking Tips
For winter campers or those lucky enough to be travelling somewhere
warm to avoid Calgary’s weather, here are a few reminders
when parking your RVs:
Under the Calgary Traffic Bylaw 26M96:
•RVs registered to a City of Calgary address can be parked on the
street, directly adjoining the owner’s residence, for up to 36 consecutive
hours.
•After 36 hours, the RV must be moved to an off-street location
for at least 48 consecutive hours before being parked again on the
street adjoining the owner’s or operator’s residence.
•While parked on the street, RVs should be parked in a manner

Under the Land Use Bylaw 2P80:
• Recreational vehicles can be parked on front property or driveways
for up to 24 hours.
Bingo Community Fundraiser
If you can volunteer for this fund-raising event, please call Mary
at 403-280-3976. If you have never ‘done bingo’ before - no worries
- training is provided - just show up 15 minutes early. Refreshments
are provided for the workers. Volunteering your time can help
you pay for school and youth activities by means of receiving a
voucher which you can use to offset the fees. A few hours can make
a HUGE difference!

RUNDLE JUNIOR YOUTH
The Rundle Junior Youth group held a three day camp this
December, focusing on how we are all the “Builders of Unity”. The
program enabled participants to develop their powers of expression
- with a focus on critical reasoning, literacy, comprehension and
eloquent speech - in order to participate more effectively in the
planning, decision-making and development of our communities.
Currently, the Junior Youth group held on Wednesday and
Thursday afternoons is still accepting participants. Everyone between
the ages of 11-15 is welcome to join. This program is part of an
international initiative where Junior Youth are engaging with their
communities, exploring the moral implications of their thoughts and
action, developing their own capabilities, and creating meaningful
social change. We invite you to learn more about this initiative and
explore ways you can help contribute to a better world. Please call

overall in the past few years… A reminder to watch out for suspicious
activity such as alley lurkers. Keep an eye out for your neighbors and
report anything out of the ordinary!
Citizen Online Police Report System
This system allows you to submit and print a police report if one
of the following has happened to you within the City of Calgary and
you do not know who did it:
• You have lost or have had stolen something that is worth less than
$5,000(not including firearms, licence plates or government-issued
funds or identification). (Lost Property or Theft under $5,000)
• Your property or vehicle has been vandalized. (Damage/Mischief to
Property or Vehicle under $5,000)
• Your vehicle has been broken into. (Theft from Vehicle under
$5,000)
All other crimes must be reported by calling the non-emergency
line at 403-266-1234 or by visiting a district office.
