With the few decades tradition, the restaurant „Kumbara“ was always 

known as the place recognizable for great national kitchen and especially 

for magnificent grill specialties made of the most delicious meat, which are 

prepared and made at the restaurant itself. 

Restaurant „Kumbara“ is also specific for its location. It is placed in the sole 

of mountain Avala, and it is surrounded by the greenery, so it gives you the

History 

The Madera rastaurant is situated in a city area with a long and vivid 

history. The stretch of today’s Boulevard of King Alexander from 

Takovska to Beogradska street used to be known as the “Funnel-Street 

Market” (Fišeklijska čaršija), since it was designated by the Duke Miloš 

Obrenović as an area for vending of dinamyte and funnel packed goods. 

The very spot where today stands Madera restaurant occupied a bar called 

Smederevo, that was a meeting place for coach drivers and carters. Later, with the 

rise of modernity, a building was erected whose lobby in 1937 became a home 

of a bar-restaurant called Madera. As the story goes the rastaurant received its 

name when a supreme wine was brought by one of the guests. This restaurant 

soon became a meeting place of city’s bohemians- the famous artists, journalists 

and sportsmen that became known as Maderians.
