Aikido (Clayton)<br />

Club Description: Aikido is a modern Japanese martial art developed by Morihei Ueshiba, which has no<br />

dependence on physical strength. Aikido uses circular flowing movements originating from a relaxed body<br />

and a fully focused mind. Regular practice brings a feeling of well-being and self confidence that carries over<br />

into every aspect of daily life. Aikido uses repeated practice of various techniques in its physical training.<br />

With time, rational and unforced movements flow naturally from within the body. The Aikidoist practises ways<br />

to control aggression without causing harm or injury. Each student trains and progresses at their own pace,<br />

finding harmony within their own personal development.<br />

Arnis (Clayton)<br />

Club Description: Filipino martial arts – single stick, double stick, machete, sword, knife. Very practical and<br />

effective self defence applications learnt straight away. The curriculum is taught in progression of difficulty.<br />

Starting with easy Arnis, followed by close quarter stick fighting, linear long range stick fighting, largo arco<br />

method of fighting multiple opponents, and finally the deadly kalis ilustrisimo method of eskrima. Workshops<br />

on various topics such as quarter staff, knife defence and fighting are also given.<br />

Club Description: We provide highly rewarding competitive, participative and social opportunities to people<br />

of all skill levels and ages. Based at Duncan Mackinnon Park in Murrumbeena, the Glenhuntly Athletic Club is<br />

one of the largest Athletic clubs in Australia. The club fields teams in Victorian Men’s & Women’s senior and<br />

junior grade competitions in summer (track & field) and winter (cross country, road & fun runs). Club training<br />

and fitness groups by experienced and qualified coaches operate all year round. New members are always<br />

most welcome and are catered for in a friendly, positive and exciting environment. There is also a Tuesday<br />

evening running group that caters for all ages and abilities at <strong>Monash</strong> <strong>University</strong> Clayton Campus. This group<br />

gathers at 6pm in the Seminar Room at <strong>Monash</strong> <strong>Sport</strong> - Building 1.<br />

Badminton (Caulfield)<br />

Club Description: <strong>Monash</strong> <strong>University</strong> Caulfield Badminton Club is open to students, staff and public<br />

members. The club meets and plays two times a week at Chisholm Hall Caulfield Campus and consists<br />

of players ranging from social to state league. There are opportunities for members to participate in various<br />

competitions throughout the year. A highly social club, this is the place to be for anyone with an interest in<br />

Badminton. New members are always welcome.<br />

Club Description: <strong>Monash</strong> <strong>University</strong> Badminton Club was established in 1964 and membership has now<br />

grown to over 150 players, and utilises the stadium with its 10 courts as its base. MUBC has always been an<br />

active club in terms of the membership support, sport development as well as providing strong participation<br />

and players’ involvement in local, state and national competitions. Over the years the club is fortunate to host<br />

a number of national players studying at <strong>Monash</strong>, through its club structure and run various events (including<br />

social functions and tournaments) that attract top players to participate in the university.<br />

Club Description: MUGSU Badminton Club meets and plays two times every week on Tuesday and<br />

Thursday. It has been a place for ‘social gathering’, where students meet and make new friends. For most<br />

of the international students, the Badminton Club is their starting line in Gippsland life. Students can play<br />

Badminton leisurely, but for those looking for some serious games; most of the old members here and also<br />

the advisor of this Badminton Club (Eric Goh), will be up for challenges on the courts.<br />

Club Description: <strong>Monash</strong> <strong>University</strong> Peninsula Badminton Club offers regular training and social games,<br />

with valuable coaching provided to members. There are numerous social events held throughout the year and<br />

the club is looking for new members from beginners through to experienced players.<br />

Baseball (Clayton)<br />

Club Description: <strong>Monash</strong> <strong>University</strong> Baseball Club plays in the Dandenong Baseball Association winter<br />

competition. The club, established in 1967, has a proud history – winning several A grade premierships<br />

and boasts minor league players and national players. We are seeking players of all abilities; male, female,<br />

rookies, ex-pro, ex-college and cricketers to come down and play this great game. Our winter season runs<br />

from mid April to early September for playoffs, with pre-season training starting in March. We also have<br />

regular social events throughout the year; including friendly rubberball games, bbq’s, trivia nights, movie<br />

nights and the presentation night. Come down to the diamond to check us out!<br />

Club Description: MUGSU Basketball Club meets regularly throughout the university semesters for casual<br />

basketball on Wednesday and Sunday nights. The club has a mix of local and international students, which<br />

form teams that compete in the local community competitions.<br />

Club Description: The Boardriders is a surf and snow boarding club, which holds regular trips and social<br />

functions throughout the year. The club caters for learners through to competition, and is a great place for<br />

anyone who has a keen interest in the surf or the snow – to get involved in these exhilarating sports. A fun,<br />

exciting and friendly club, the Boardriders are always looking for and welcoming new members.<br />

Club Description: MUGSU Boardriders Club is designed to engage people with the outdoors by<br />

introducing them to the ‘board’-a fun, sometimes funny shaped item used to the extreme in climates away<br />

from the lecture theatre and into the unknown midst around us. Learn how to snowboard on the slopes of<br />

Hotham and surf the local beaches from Inverloch to the beautiful Wilson’s Prom. The clubs members decide<br />

trips away and surf sessions throughout the year.<br />

Club Description: MUGSU Boxing & Kickboxing Club is an organisation based on having a good time,<br />

getting fit and learning a bit of the basics of boxing. Experience is not needed, but if you want to properly train<br />

the option is there. A friendly non-confrontational atmosphere, where group training and circuits are run by a<br />

licensed and well experienced ‘prized’ fighter.<br />

Club Description: <strong>Monash</strong> Bushwalking and Outdoors Club is for those who like adventure. Our activities<br />

stretch from bushwalking, cross-country skiing, rogaining, orienteering, mountain-biking, rock climbing,<br />

caving, kayaking, rafting and canoe polo. MBOC is a member-oriented club, with members coming from<br />

all parts of the university and community. Members are encouraged to join trips and gain experience; many<br />

trips are run each month. Annual rock-climbing, bushwalking and kayaking trips occur, as well as our weekly<br />

indoor rock-climbing and canoe polo sessions to practice skills for weekend trips. So if you’re after new<br />

friends to go on adventures to places near and far, then MBOC is the place to look!<br />

Cricket (Caulfield)<br />

Club Description: <strong>Monash</strong> <strong>University</strong> Gryphons Cricket Club has men’s teams competing in the MCA<br />

and SD&CCL, with our tops sides playing on turf pitches. The club has over 60 members, and runs monthly<br />

social events during summer. MUGCC welcomes players of all standards, and provides professional<br />

coaching.<br />

Club Description: Hawthorn-<strong>Monash</strong> <strong>University</strong> Cricket Club is affiliated with Cricket Victoria, and<br />

competes in the highest cricket competition in Victoria. All students are made very welcome and may contact<br />

Club Description: MUGSU Cricket Club has a team playing in the Traralgon and District Cricket<br />

Association, which is made up of local and international students. We play as a team within Churchill Cricket<br />

Club, who support and provide the <strong>Monash</strong> team access to excellent facilities and social networks within the<br />

local community. Come join the club, as it provides better players the opportunity to develop leadership skills<br />

and gives inexperienced cricketers a chance to play in a fun and friendly team that is still competitive.<br />

Dance <strong>Sport</strong> (Clayton)<br />

Club Description: We offer classes in Latin, Street Latin, Modern, New Vogue, Rock ‘n’ Roll, Swing<br />

and Jazz/Funk taught by professional instructors. Classes are offered at a range of times during the week<br />

throughout the semester, with the club catering for beginners through to experienced dancers. As well as<br />

lessons; the club also offers social nights, competition dancing camps and an annual dinner dance ball.<br />

Fencing (Clayton)<br />

Club Description: Fencing is the competitive modern incarnation of classical European sword fighting. We<br />

train in all three Olympic disciplines: Foil, Epee and Sabre. All fencers begin with Foil where the majority of<br />

the essential skills for fencing in all weapons are learnt, and then many go on to try the other weapons Epee<br />

and Sabre. Fencing is an extremely safe sport, with many chances to compete and an excellent way to get<br />

fit and make friends at the same time. Beginners’ classes are held throughout semester in the Fencing Hall at<br />

<strong>Monash</strong> <strong>Sport</strong> – Building 1, with all ages and levels of athletic ability welcome.<br />

Club Description: <strong>Monash</strong> Gryphons Football Club was established in 1991. With a membership base of<br />

over 50+ players, the Gryphons have both a senior and reserve side. The teams train twice per week at their<br />

home ground, located at Caulfield East Reserve. The Gryphons philosophy of pride, honesty, commitment,<br />

mateship and passion is an integral part of our club. A large number of social events are also held throughout<br />

the year.<br />

Club Description: <strong>Monash</strong> Blues Football Club represents the <strong>University</strong> and plays in the VAFA, the largest<br />

football competition in Australia. We have 4 teams: seniors, reserves, U19’s and a club 18, catering for a<br />

wide range of footballing talent and experience. The club’s home is the Frearson Oval at <strong>Monash</strong> <strong>University</strong>,<br />

Clayton Campus. The club facilities are superb and we offer our players many outstanding opportunities from<br />

sporting to social and career development. We are planning an exciting 2010 season and would like to hear<br />

Club Description: The Frankston YCW Football Club is an affiliate club of <strong>Monash</strong> <strong>University</strong> and was<br />

established in the late 1950. With a membership base of over 100+ players, the Stonecats have senior and<br />

reserve sides which play in the Mornington Peninsula and Nepean Football League. The team train twice<br />

per week at their home ground located at Jells Park Frankston and have had great success over the years<br />

accumulating 9 senior and 6 reserve premierships. A large number of social events are also held throughout<br />

the year and the club is always looking for new members.<br />

Club Description: <strong>Monash</strong> <strong>University</strong> Women’s Football Club fondly known as the ‘<strong>Monash</strong> Mustangs’,<br />

invites new and past members every year to be involved in this vibrant and sociable club. Club members may<br />

be athletes, supporters, coaches, fundraisers or social recreators. Club activities run year round on a weekly<br />

basis and may include: come-try sessions, skills, fun & fitness, social events, fundraising activities, team trip,<br />

and two weeks of action packed <strong>University</strong> Games competitions (SUG’s & AUG’s). All abilities welcome!<br />

Club Description: From the occasional hacker to the scratch handicapper, <strong>Monash</strong> Golf is the club for<br />

golfers of all levels. The club provides a weekly session, where members can come together and have an<br />

opportunity to meet fellow golfers and improve skills. This year, there is a view to host tournaments both<br />

internally, as well as hosting external tournaments with other universities. The Australian <strong>University</strong> Games<br />

(AUG’s) is also a focus for <strong>Monash</strong> Golf, as we’ll continue to try to organise the best possible team to<br />

represent <strong>Monash</strong> to compete with other top Australian universities.<br />

Gridiron (Clayton)<br />

Club Description: <strong>Monash</strong> Warriors Gridiron Football Club brings American Football to Australia. We play<br />

full contact football in the Victorian League from June to September, culminating in the state championship<br />

VICBOWL. The club have been to the last five VICBOWLS (winning four) and many of our players have<br />

represented the state and played for Australia at an international level. People of all sizes, shapes and<br />

nationalities can play Gridiron – as there are positions for every type of player. All you need is the commitment<br />

to learn and love of the game, the rest we’ll teach you.<br />

Club Description: <strong>Monash</strong> <strong>University</strong> Gymnastics and Trampolining Club offers mixed recreational<br />

gymnastics from beginner to intermediate standard. We also offer trampolining from beginner to advanced<br />

standard, and cater for both recreational and competitive trampolining. Our main aim is to focus on strength,<br />

fitness, coordination and flexibility in a fun and positive environment.<br />

Club Description: <strong>Monash</strong> <strong>University</strong> Handball Club is renowned for the diversity of its members, which<br />

come from all parts of the world. The club has a long and successful tradition in the Victorian Handball<br />

League, and caters for beginners as well as for advanced players, both females and males. The Club has<br />

players that compete on a National and International level. Besides training twice a week and a match on the<br />

weekend, club members often get together for social events such as trips, parties or beach handball. While<br />

handball is a sport that can be enjoyed socially; playing competitively and challenging the players to improve<br />

has become a successful philosophy of the club in recent years.<br />

Club Description: <strong>Monash</strong> <strong>University</strong> Hockey Club caters for players of all skill levels, from beginners to<br />

the experienced. We have coaches for all grades from state league through to metro, for both the men’s<br />

and women’s competitions. Our club facilities include a water-based ground, as well as modern and wellequipped<br />

clubrooms. And for the times when you are off the pitch, the club provides an exciting and fun<br />

social atmosphere. With over 200+ members, <strong>Monash</strong> Hockey Club is one of the universities largest and<br />

Inline Hockey (Clayton)<br />

Club Description: <strong>Monash</strong> Inline Club provides a fun, friendly environment where people can learn how to<br />

rollerblade and how to play Inline Hockey. We are a tight-knit bunch that welcomes everyone, from people<br />

who have never rollerbladed before to people wanting to play competitively. Trainings and games are based<br />

mainly at Dandenong Skate Centre, and sometimes on campus. We also offer open skating sessions at the<br />

rink, as well as various social events throughout the year.<br />

<strong>Clubs</strong> Guide<br />

Club Description: Jiu-Jitsu is an excellent martial art for self-defence, it develops good all-round fitness<br />

and it’s fun. Traditional Jiu-Jitsu emphasises the intelligent and efficient use of strength for self-defence<br />

standing and on the ground. Training is conducted at both Clayton and Caulfield campuses throughout the<br />

week. Classes are enjoyable, good exercise and teach practical techniques for self defence situations. We<br />

cater for all skill levels, with experienced and qualified instructors taking classes. As well as classes, social<br />

events are conducted throughout the year.<br />

Judo (Clayton)<br />

Club Description: Judo is an all round sport which can provide fitness, enjoyment and competition as<br />

well as being adapted to self defence. Training with the Judo club provides the opportunity to improve your<br />

physical fitness, co-ordination, flexibility, self confidence and self defence abilities. Regular coloured belt<br />

gradings are conducted as your skill level develops. All levels from beginners to coloured belts are individually<br />

coached. Competitions are held regularly throughout the year, including the Australian <strong>University</strong> Games.<br />

For the non-competitively minded, Judo is an excellent recreational sport. Social events are also featured<br />

throughout the year.<br />

Kendo (Clayton)<br />

Club Description: <strong>Monash</strong> <strong>University</strong> Kendo Club is an affiliate of the Victorian Kendo and the International<br />

Kendo Federation. Our club offers this traditional Japanese martial art, with bamboo swords, as not just a way<br />

of training physically but also a way of training the mind. We conduct one beginner’s course a year, which<br />

starts in March when the first semester of university begins and goes for eight weeks. The club trains twice a<br />

week at <strong>Monash</strong> <strong>Sport</strong> – Building 1, Clayton Campus. Social functions are also held occasionally throughout<br />

the year. Anyone who is interested in Kendo is more than welcome to come and watch our training sessions.<br />

Kickboxing (Clayton)<br />

Club Description: <strong>Monash</strong> <strong>University</strong> Kickboxing Club is one of the largest and most active martial<br />

arts clubs on the Clayton Campus. Our instructors teach three styles: Kickboxing, Muay Thai and Filipino<br />

Kickboxing. We hold seminars and competitions as well as various social nights, awards presentation nights<br />

and kickboxing training camps to keep our members entertained. Kickboxing is great for fun and fitness,<br />

stress relief, competition, self defence and self development. Everyone is welcome to join the Kickboxing<br />

club, our instructors are experienced, fully qualified and accredited by the Martial Arts Industry Association<br />

(MAIA). Our instructors provide quality instruction in a safe environment and aim to cater to your goals and<br />

needs.<br />

Lacrosse (Clayton)<br />

Club Description: Chadstone Lacrosse Club is affiliated with <strong>Monash</strong> <strong>University</strong> and is a growing club<br />

with two senior men’s teams and a women’s team, who play in the Victorian state competition. Our club is<br />

a mixture of <strong>Monash</strong> and non-<strong>Monash</strong> players. We train at Clayton Campus and at our club ground near<br />

Chadstone shopping centre. We pride ourselves on being a friendly club and we welcome experienced<br />

players, those new to the sport and those who are just after a casual game. The club provides gear and<br />

experienced coaches to teach you the ropes. Several social functions are held throughout the year too.<br />

Club Description: <strong>Monash</strong> <strong>University</strong> Central Netball Club provides the opportunity for students, staff and<br />

community members to play Netball at any level, ranging from social to state league. The club currently has<br />

around 30 women’s and mixed teams; entered in the Waverley Night Netball Association, Parkville Netball<br />

Competitions and State League. Some club members are selected to represent <strong>Monash</strong> <strong>University</strong> at the<br />

annual Australian <strong>University</strong> Games (AUG’s). The club also organises a range of social events throughout the<br />

year including a trivia night, the annual sports ball, the club presentation night and numerous BBQ’s.<br />

Netball (Peninsula)<br />

Club Description: The <strong>Monash</strong> <strong>University</strong> Peninsula Netball Club provide opportunities for students, staff<br />

and the community to play netball in a fun social environment as part of the local Frankston District Netball<br />

Association competition. The club has women’s teams that compete on Saturday afternoons and train twice<br />

per week as well as teams that compete in the mixed netball competition on Sunday evenings. The club also<br />

organises a range of social activities throughout the year.<br />

Roamers (Peninsula)<br />

Club Description: Our dedicated group of <strong>Monash</strong> students and community members are committed to<br />

providing adventure experiences in the Rivers, Oceans, And Mountains (thus ROAMers). Basically we get out<br />

there and do it, have great fun with new and old friends, experience nature in all its glory, and maybe even<br />

discover something about ourselves and those around us along the way. Our club is especially focused on<br />

providing experiences that cater to everyone, with most of our official club trips being beginner orientated.<br />

Whatever your inclination and experience, there is no doubt you will find fun and challenges to suit you here<br />

with us at the Roamers!<br />

Rowing (Clayton)<br />

Club Description: <strong>Monash</strong> <strong>University</strong> Rowing Club is a competitive rowing club, who competes at the<br />

Australian <strong>University</strong> Games each year. The club is made up of members of differing levels of experience,<br />

ranging from first years who have rowed at school through to elite athletes who represent Victoria and<br />

Australia. This mix is one of the factors that makes rowing with <strong>Monash</strong> such a unique experience. We have<br />

Club Description: Chisholm Ski & Board offers students the opportunity to partake in Waterskiing,<br />

Wakeboarding, Snowskiing and Snowboarding. The club has everything you need for students of all<br />

capabilities. The club works, socialises and skis with all the other university ski clubs around Melbourne. Each<br />

university club hosts an annual social event for all clubs to attend; these events include boat races, reverse<br />

raffles, trivia nights and the annual ball. The first trip to be run this year is the ‘new members camp’, which<br />

takes new members Waterskiing and Wakeboarding over a weekend. Anyone interested should express their<br />

interest early, as the trip is very popular and a sell out every year.<br />

frequent trips to the snow. There is snowboarding and skiing for all skill levels, from beginners to extreme<br />

skiers, as well as many social events throughout the year. Sponsors help us to arrange 12 tonnes of snow be<br />

brought down, where a ‘Rail Jam’ competition is organised and Pro riders are invited to show their skills. We<br />

are engaged in the annual Inter-Varsity Competitions and always strive to put forward a competitive team, with<br />

top place results every year.<br />

organises a range of social events throughout the year; including get-togethers after training, on weekends,<br />

Club Description: Our club registers five men’s and two women’s teams with over 150 members. The<br />

senior and reserve men’s teams compete in the first division of the Victorian Provisional Leagues on Saturdays,<br />

and the remaining three men’s and women’s teams all compete on Sundays. We have also had the pleasure<br />

of training and playing with some great national and international talent, plus being coached by people who<br />

have played top-flight football, both locally and overseas. The facilities are top-class, with the Socceroos and<br />

Melbourne Victory occasionally training on our pitches at Clayton Campus. However, it doesn’t just stop with<br />

soccer. We pride ourselves on being a club with a great social community with heaps of functions, which<br />

trains during the week throughout the semester and in preparation for specific tournaments such as Southern<br />

Uni Games, Australian Uni Games and the Sale Country Knockout. Our club caters for a range of abilities,<br />

entering teams into competitions in multiple grades as well as in social divisions. We provide highly qualified<br />

coaches who have state and national expertise. The club also holds many social functions, outings and<br />

attends other Touch tournaments.<br />

Triathlon (Clayton)<br />

Club Description: Our club aims to encourage people to compete in triathlons from beginners who want<br />

to compete in short triathlons (300m swim, 10km ride, 2km run) to extremely fit who want to race in ironman<br />

competitions (3.8km swim, 180km ride, 42km run) and for people in between. Training for the recreational<br />

swim squad occurs three times a week, and members can also attend bike and run sessions. We can even<br />

help you learn to swim, as long as you have some basic idea or we can help you compete in an ironman<br />

race. Whatever your standard, you will be made welcome as part of our club.<br />

Ultimate Frisbee (Clayton)<br />

Club Description: Our club revolves around playing Ultimate Frisbee, Frisbee Golf and Freestyle Frisbee<br />

– combined with an active social side. Ultimate Frisbee is a mixed team sport that is fast paced and more<br />

importantly fun. Ultimate is a great way to keep in shape and meet new people. Training occurs once a<br />

week and the club is involved in round-robin tournaments throughout the year. There is a social division on<br />

specific weeknights for all players regardless of experience and social functions are also held throughout the<br />

Underwater - Hockey (Clayton)<br />

Club Description: Underwater Hockey is a component of the Underwater Club that offers a competitive<br />

angle to the club’s activities. Playing Hockey does not require diving experience or a qualification. The game<br />

is simple: a lead puck on the bottom that needs to be moved into the opposition’s goals. The game is<br />

played in a 25 meter pool at a depth of 2 meters, with 6 a side, attired in snorkelling gear, and armed with a<br />

playing stick/bat. <strong>Monash</strong> has a strong social component, but the club also supports a range of abilities from<br />

beginners to individuals who represent Australia. The club can fit you out with the required gear, so all you<br />

need is your bathers. The club has training at the Doug Ellis Swimming Pool twice a week.<br />

Underwater - Scuba (Clayton)<br />

Club Description: <strong>Monash</strong> Underwater Club caters to divers of all experience levels from those who are<br />

wishing to learn, right through to technical and deep diving. The club has members who participate in a wide<br />

range of diving hobbies, such as Underwater photography and Underwater Hockey. The club has members<br />

diving every weekend in the Port Phillip Bay, where you can discover a diverse range of marine life and diving<br />

sites. Typical club diving includes wrecks, shore dives, wall dives and drift dives. MONUC also facilitates<br />

cheap diving courses and has yearly diving trips. We want everyone to experience the amazing marine life<br />

and underwater landscape Victoria has to offer.<br />

Fencing<br />

Fencing is the modern<br />

competitive incarnation<br />

of Classical European<br />

swordplay.<br />

It is comprised of three disciplines – Foil, Epee<br />

and Sabre; with all based upon conventions set<br />

in yester year.<br />

At <strong>Monash</strong>, all fencers begin with Foil so as<br />

to learn essential skills for fencing in all three<br />

weapons, and then many go on to Epee and<br />

Sabre.<br />

Fencing is an extremely safe sport, with many<br />

chances to compete and an excellent way to get<br />

fit and make friends at the same time or during<br />

an event on our social calendar.<br />

<strong>Monash</strong> <strong>University</strong> Fencing Club train on<br />

Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6pm, with<br />

the beginners’ course run on Tuesdays from<br />

6:30pm.<br />

The club has an ample supply of fencing<br />

equipment, so short of a glove and shoes, we<br />

supply everything free of charge.<br />

most successful Volleyball club in Victoria, winning the VVL (State League) Club Championship for the past six<br />

years. As one of the largest Volleyball clubs in Australia, we provide opportunities for men and women of all<br />

ages and abilities to play volleyball; ranging from social competitions, through all divisions of State League, up<br />

to the elite level of AVL (National League).<br />

Club Description: We provide <strong>Monash</strong> students with the opportunity to Waterski and Wakeboard for an<br />

accessible price and for all skill levels. Regular camps and ski days are run throughout the year. Over summer<br />

we usually run trips most weekends at a variety of different locations, and over winter we run regular day trips<br />

to Hazelwood and Lake Narracan, where we have access to a slalom course and ski jump. We have facilities,<br />

equipment (including a Malibu boat) and personnel to teach beginners through to tournament level skiers.<br />

There are also social functions throughout the year including the Waterski ball, a cocktail party and BBQ’s.<br />

Wushu (Clayton)<br />

Club Description: Wushu literally translates to ‘martial arts’. It encompasses all varieties of styles, including<br />

the forms commonly known in the West as Kung-fu and Tai Chi. We focus on self development, enhancing<br />

your speed, balance, coordination and flexibility. Routines can be practised individually, in pairs or groups,<br />

barehanded or with weapons. Such routines include long fist, sword, spear, staff, drunken fist, praying mantis<br />

and many more. In addition to regular training, the <strong>Monash</strong> Wushu Club performs at various functions and<br />

tournaments. The club’s coach is Master Tang Laiwei, a former Chinese National Champion and ex-member<br />

of the Beijing Wushu Team.<br />

Yet Chuan Do (Clayton)<br />

Club Description: Yet Chuan Do is a product of Yet Jia Chuan and has undergone many years of constant<br />

development, modification and improvement by its founder Brian Lee. Yet Chuan Do today is a means to<br />

improve oneself in terms of self defence, self discipline or simply to become a better person. With proper and<br />

diligent training your strength and fitness (both physically and mentally), sense of concentration, reflex and<br />

understanding of oneself will be greatly enhanced. The philosophy and beauty of traditional kung fu training<br />

methods are thoughtfully maintained; while great emphasis is also placed on a realistic, practical and up to<br />

date approach.<br />
