When Sony Music Studios expanded into the adjacent
former taxicab garage in Manhattan, it was the first new
space converted to studio use at their Manhattan for many
years.
Because it occupies a separate structure from the adjacent
main recording complex, Studio D benenefits from a
degree of autonomy while the room layouts were somewhat
constrained by the long and narrow original garage.
Artist lounge and offices are placed on the upper level.

The gateway serves as a landmark at the southern
boundary of the North Hollywood Arts District
CRA project area. The project memoralizes the role
of Noho as the backlot to many Hollywood
television and film productions signified by the
many angles busy erecting the sign.
The gateway sign was realized in collaboration
with the Community Redevelopment Agency of hte
City of Los Angeles and artist Peter Shire.

Bailey Library as part of the district wide
facility modernization construction
program.
Bailey Library is situated at the heart of
the campus and will feature 15,000
square feet of additional space.
The renovated library is expected to
achieve LEED-NC v2.2 Silver certification
when completed min 2011.

Exposition Park Regional Branch Library constructed as part of the City of
Los Angeles Sustainable Design Implementation Program replaces a nearby
outdated facility and features a building-integrated photovoltaic array
generating more than 50% of the library’s annual energy needs.
The library was awarded LEED-NC v2.1 Gold certification.

This three storey house was
constructed on a previously undeveloped
parcel overlooking the Echo Park
neighborhood of Los Angeles.
The design incorporates a large two
storey loft style dwelling atop separate
guest quarters straddling and existing
stone wall. Corrigated aluminum
siding was used throughout.
The house is placed at one corner of the
hillside lot preserving three-quarters
as openspace accessed from the living
area by a circulat stair.

Burnish Stone anticipated the
revolution of digital recording
technique and undertook a complete
technology upgrade of their earliest
and largest suite in 2001.
While interior finishes were updated
and coordinated with their later
facilities, the original acoustics by
Vincent A. van Haaff of Waterland
Design were largely unchanged, again,
for playback continuity of the recordings
of artists many of whom return
for the outstanding qualities the
facility affords.
Studio 1 is the second and larger of
two control rooms realized in Tokyo by
Waterland utilizing floated concrete
frontwall monitoring environment.
