overcome the challenges of investigating and prosecuting these types of internati<strong>on</strong>al fraud, the<br />

US SAFE WEB Act strengthens the FTC's ability to cooperate with its foreign counterparts,<br />

gather informati<strong>on</strong> from internati<strong>on</strong>al sources, and follow the m<strong>on</strong>ey trail without tipping off the<br />

fraud's perpetrators.<br />

As with health-related fraud, the FTC combines its law enforcement efforts against all<br />

types of Internet fraud with c<strong>on</strong>sumer educati<strong>on</strong> and business outreach campaigns. The FTC has<br />

produced a wide array of materials to educate c<strong>on</strong>sumers <strong>on</strong> how to spot and avoid <strong>on</strong>line scams<br />

and to increase business awareness <strong>on</strong> how to comply with the law. For example, the award-<br />

winning website, OnGuardOnline.gov, c<strong>on</strong>tains tips, articles, videos, and interactive materials to<br />

educate c<strong>on</strong>sumers <strong>on</strong> guarding against Internet fraud, filter spam, secure their computers, and<br />

protect their pers<strong>on</strong>al informati<strong>on</strong>. The FTC developed OnGuardOnline in c<strong>on</strong>juncti<strong>on</strong> with<br />

industry partners and other agencies, and since its launch in late 2005, the site has attracted more<br />

than 3.5 milli<strong>on</strong> visits. The FTC also disseminates a variety of business educati<strong>on</strong> materials,<br />

including materials to inform businesses about complying with the CAN-SPAM Act, 24 and<br />

publicati<strong>on</strong>s providing advice <strong>on</strong> making clear disclosures in <strong>on</strong>line ads. 25<br />

IV. C<strong>on</strong>clusi<strong>on</strong><br />

The FTC has been involved in policing the Internet for more than a decade and will<br />

c<strong>on</strong>tinue to protect c<strong>on</strong>sumers from the various types of <strong>on</strong>line fraud. As technology and scams<br />

change, the Commissi<strong>on</strong> c<strong>on</strong>tinues to shift its resources to target those frauds that cause the most<br />

harm to c<strong>on</strong>sumers. In additi<strong>on</strong>, the FTC will c<strong>on</strong>tinue its efforts to ensure the truthfulness and<br />
