Bangs Flow Cytometry Standards
Microspheres & Particles
In order to perform reliable flow cytometric analyses, the instrument must be properly set up and
its performance validated. Bangs Flow Cytometry Standards are designed to help achieve these
goals and are presented in the following categories: Instrument Set-Up, Calibration, Validation and
Fluorescence Quantitation. Most of the Bangs Flow Cytometry Standards are available in three
convenient sizes: Trial (A Size: 20 tests, 1ml), Standard (B Size: 100 tests, 5ml) and Economy (C
Size: 280 tests, 14ml). A test requires one drop (50µl) of particle suspension, which is equivalent
to ~100,000 particles. Bangs Flow Cytometry Standards are ~7-9µm in diameter (unless otherwise
noted) to approximate the size of human lymphocytes. QuantumPlex kits for particle-based suspension
assays are also featured in this section.
General Fluorescence Reference Standards
Full Spectrum Multi-color Reference Standards are highly uniform microspheres which fluoresce over a broad range
of the spectrum to provide several reference positions in multi-detector analysis. Used to properly
align flow cytometers excited from UV to near IR, this standard emits over the entire spectrum.
Ultra Rainbow Fluorescent Particles
Internally labeled with a mixture of fluorophores which enables them to be excited at wavelengths
from 365nm to 650nm.
Time Delay Calibration Standard .............................................
Intended for use in assessing the delay between blue and red lasers. It features ~6µm microspheres
dyed with a fluorophore that is excited with 488nm or 635nm excitation and exhibits red/far-red
emission.
Fluorescence Reference Standards
Fluorescence Reference Standards are labeled with specific fluorochromes so that they give rise to
the same fluorescence spectra as cells labeled with the same fluorochromes. Fluorescence intensity
is similar to biological samples.
